Follow-up Friday: Rants, Fat Dogs, Videos!

I'm happy to be joining Heart Like a Dog in the follow-up Friday blog hop this week.  This is the blog hop that lets you wrap up your week and leads you right into the weekend.  Hosted by FUF creator, Jodi at Heart Like a Dog

Do you mind if I rant a little bit?
Why does October have so many cool things to celebrate or blog about?  And why are some of them even on the same day?  Adopt a Dog, Adopt a Shelter Dog, Pet Obesity Awareness Month, Breast Cancer Awareness Month.  Dog-gone it, National Pit Bull Awareness Day and National Mule Day are the same exact day.  Shoot.  There are others.  Why couldn't they all be spread out better over the year.

This week I reached my quota of horrible animal stories.  I'd just read (skimmed) the news story about another brutal crime of cruelty towards a dog and another story about the Georgia animal shelter break in (asshats turned dogs loose and made them fight), when I had an email from a friend involved in rescue in NY with another gruesome tale of cruelty.  Some days I think I just can't take any more.  You, too?

Okay, this isn't really a rant.  You know how you hear over and over again that Labs will eat anything?  Not Rudy.  A couple of days ago I finally got around to adding my dogs to Pets Move and I felt strange as I put in Rudy's weight:  104.  Doesn't that just plain sound fat for a Lab?   Well, Rudy is NOT fat!  However, I have a feeling that as Rosie moves from puppy to dog... she'll be needing to join doggie weight watchers.  [And I want you to know, per our vet, Rudy is in tip top health!]

Rudy... fat?  Not.

Feral Cat Song - Dog Song Saturday
I'm a feral cat feeder.  If you are, too, don't miss the lyrics to this song!  Many thanks to Beth for the reminder of the Mean Kitty Song.  I featured it a few years ago on Dog Song Saturday.   Thanks also to Ann for the link to this very creative cat themed song and video!

Adopt Lilith a Pit Bull Dog in Missouri
Lilith is my most recent adoptable dog feature.  You know, I love the adoption updates so many of the Tuesdays Tails blog hop bloggers post.  Unfortunately, nearly all of the dogs I feature are from "kill" shelters.  I've learned the hard way to not do follow up.  Follow up usually results in sleepless nights, terrible dreams, and increased temptation to become one of those terribly misguided hoarders.

Herbsmith Freeze Dried Dog Treats Review
I'm increasing intrigued with freeze dried dog food and treats.  My pack loves these, plus we've been using Orijen's freeze dried dog food as a topper on their food.  Finally, Rudy is excited about food.

My Shelter Dogs - Wordless Wednesday
Loved all the great comments and compliments about Jeffie and Rosie.  They're just the latest shelter dogs in my life.  Beginning with Bennie, my first dog after I left home; Sherman,  and Spanky.  The others weren't lucky enough to have managed to get themselves to a shelter, but were lucky enough to have been rescued by me :-)

Adopt a Shelter Dog - Favorite Videos
If you missed this post, fetch it!  Honestly, these are great videos promoting adoption.  And they are upbeat!!

And finally... thanks to everyone who's been leaving such fabulous comments on my jewelry posts.  I truly read and appreciate every single one!

Adopt a Shelter Dog Month: My Favorite Videos

National Adopt a Shelter Dog Month is fast coming to a close.  Rather than repeat what I've said so many times before about the benefits and joys of adopting your next furry best friend from a shelter or rescue, I thought I'd share just a few of my favorite upbeat adopt a dog videos. (Tissues are NOT required!)

I featured this one with singer songwriter Edie Brickell's catchy tune on Dog Song Saturday.  It is definitely worth an encore.

I can't help loving this clever video and agree that I do wish everyone could see me as my dogs see me!

If my own shelter dogs could speak English, they'd join me in saying...

Subaru #DogTested Fun Apps and Giveaway

Many years ago, when I was single and had a good case of the wanderlust, my rescue dog, Benji, and I went everywhere together.

Benji was a big dog, a Doberman / German Shepherd cross, and my car was a very small hatchback.  If Benji had his head out the window, people laughingly warned me that my car was going to tip over.

Whenever I parked to run an errand, Benji always moved into the driver's seat.  Many times I returned to my car to find people talking to him.  And this became a standard line:
"Does this dog have a driver's license?"
These days I'm married with three dogs and we're in the market for a new dog friendly vehicle.  We need something that can handle rural roads, is comfortable, gets good gas mileage and the purchase price won't wipe out our wallet.  Plus, the dogs have to be able to travel comfortably in it.  Well, not only that, but they have to like it, too.

Jeffie is pretty sure that our next vehicle needs to be a Subaru.

Ever since he saw the new Subaru video introducing Grant Weber, Subaru's most beloved Canine Sales Associate http://bit.ly/WW7C2Y  Jeffie has dreamed of a new Subaru.

He's certain that a new Subaru would be perfect for his For Love of a Dog mailman duties after seeing this http://bit.ly/W4TSFQ

In fact, he recently visited Subaru on Facebook to try out a new Dog Tested, Dog Approved Subaru.

First, he took the little quiz to discover which model would suit him best  http://subar.us/USzh6V

All he had to do is enter a few simple questions and this new Subaru app read him perfectly:

Jeffie would look great in a Subaru Outback.  With the go-anywhere capability of the Outback, you can get away from that fenced-in yard of yours and sniff out some real adventure.
In fact, Jeffie couldn't resist using another cool Subaru app http://subar.us/USzh6V to see what he'd look like in a new Subaru!

Okay, I have to admit it.  Jeffie looks good in a Subaru!

I'm just a little concerned about Jeffie's time on the computer, though.  I think he could become one of those dogs who never leave a chat room.  I say that because he got quite involved in a conversation with Sasha.

Sasha is a Golden Retriever who is on the new live chat Subaru Ask an Expert app http://subar.us/USzh6V   There was an awful lot of heavy breathing and discussion of favorite things to do on a date (chomping squirrels.)  Sadly, when Jeffie asked Sasha if she wanted to go for a ride, Sasha heard the door bell.

That's probably for the best.  Jeffie has places to go and new friends to meet.

After all, thanks to Subaru, Jeffie now has his own driver's license.

Yep.  You read that right.  Your dog can get his or her own driver's license, too, with this new Subaru app http://subar.us/USzh6V

Benji would definitely approve!

We all approve of this barking good giveaway from Subaru!  Enter now to win a $350 or $150 Visa Gift Card!  You'll need to "like" Subaru's Facebook page to enter, plus you can do the other four entries every single day!

Dog Wants a Subaru Thanks to Grant Weber

You may not know this, but Jeffie is the mailman at For Love of a Dog.  So far he's been content to be driven by a personal chauffeur.

That was until he was watching the Puppy Bowl and spotted the new Subaru advertisements.

Oh, oh.

Subaru has a new Canine Sales Associate, Grant Weber.  Grant sells cars to dogs.   Now, that does make sense, since dogs have been driving Subaru vehicles for years.

Of course, that was news to Jeffie, whose mail department chores keep him so busy that he doesn't watch much TV and has never surfed to YouTube.  And so far, he's not yet logged in to Facebook and seen the new Subaru apps at http://subar.us/USzh6V

He was glued to the TV during the Puppy Bowl and sure didn't miss the video where Grant Weber shows how easy it is for a dog to buy a Subaru.  http://bit.ly/14I6dbE

Then he saw this one that really got his focused attention http://bit.ly/W4TSFQ

In fact, all three of our dogs were glued to the TV for the Subaru ads.  There was some discussion about how many dogs would fit in a Subaru.  After all, vehicle decisions - like all important decisions in our family- are made with the dogs uppermost in mind.

Here's the one that sent Jeffie over the edge http://bit.ly/WW7C2Y   When he drove up in the mail truck and Grant just smiled and waved in welcome:

We're in trouble now.  Jeffie wants to test drive a Subaru.

And he's has asked for a raise.

Twilight Breaking Dawn Part 2 Goes to the Dogs

While on the lookout for some new dog songs, I stumbled on this video that simply cracked me up.

While the world (at least it seems so) celebrates the final movie installment of the Twilight Sage, The Pet Collective has been having some fun.  Watch below as
"After the birth of Rezzie,  the Canines gather other vampire clans in order to protect the puppy from a false allegation that puts the family in front of the Dogturi."

With apologies to all the Twihards out there, here's Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 - Barking Dawg Paw.

Dog Song Saturday: Save the World by Swedish House Mafia

Can dogs save the world?  Yes!  At least that's what is suggested in today's dog song.  Though I'm not big on violence of any kind, I loved this dog video.  And though I kept thinking one of the dogs might get hurt, none do.  In fact, the footage of the dogs - running, their faces - is fantastic.  Besides, dogs might not be able to save the whole world, but can we all agree that dogs can save people - one at a time.

Without further ado, Talking Dogs presents this Dog Song Saturday selection:  Save the World by Swedish House Mafia (available on iTunes.)

Grab a dog.  Relax and enjoy watching dogs save the world.  Want more canine music?  Fetch Talking Dogs Songs.  And while you're feeling energized in a doggy way, scroll below today's dog video to check out some barking good dog blogs, because today is a Pet Blogger Hop.
