Such a catchy tune along with great video of beautiful dogs! We love this! Labrador Retrievers, a Golden or two and more. Love the senior dog at the end. He reminds us of Tucker with his sugar lips (aging grey). The song lyrics are simple and resemble the songs we make up for our own dogs. The chorus of this one gets stuck in our heads (which is a good thing): I need a dog. Woof!

Another Dog Song with Dog Art
We just discovered this a few days ago (better late than never) and we're crazy about it. Art by Nancy Schutt, who commissioned a song from singer songwriter Emily Westman. The result is charming and just plain fun. Sit. Stay. Relax while you enjoy gorgeous dog pictures to this howling good dog song!
Okay, now, can anyone tell us where we can purchase a download of this song for our iPod?

Gulf Dogs Find Forever Homes
Most of the news out of the Gulf is incredibly depressing. Especially the photos, news stories and videos of folks affected by the oil spill feeling forced to surrender their family pets. Unable to take care of them financially, family pets are deluging animal shelters. However, here a CNN story about some very lucky dogs who have found new forever home. We're barking about Anderson Cooper and Randi Kaye who've called attention to the plight of the silent victims of the oil spill. CNN won't allow embeding of their video, but you can watch it here.

Summer Pleasures Songs about Dogs
It is hot. No, I mean really hot. Heat index well over 100 degrees every day. Our senior canines, Tucker and Lucy, manage to run their patrol route around the yard very slowly venturing from shady spot to shady spot. Jeffie ignores the heat for the most part, but has decided his favorite yard spot in under the (big) mimosa. Of course, they, like we humans are staying inside in the a.c. as much as possible.
One of our indoor pleasures is to take the time to relax and resume our search for songs about dogs. I know, it sounds crazy, but we like songs about dogs. In fact, each of our dogs has it's own song... except Jeffie. Most of them are pretty silly. But we sing them and remember old friends who've long since crossed the rainbow bridge.
Browsing the web gives us inspiration and I predict that soon, very soon, Jeffie will have his own song. In the meantime, we feel like sharing one of our favorite dog songs. Nellie McKay's Dog Song is just plain fun and promotes the excellent idea of rescuing a dog from prison (a shelter). Our dogs love the panting and barking!

Dog Fighting Raid in Stone County MO
What a way to celebrate an anniversary. A year ago marks the one year anniversary of the largest dog fighting raid and rescue in United States history. To date 17 defendants in that case have pled guilty and been sentenced to do federal time.
This week, on July 8, 2010, the Humane Society of Missouri was involved in a dog fighting raid in Stone County, MO. At the request of the Stone County Sheriff’s Department, the Humane Society of Missouri Animal Cruelty Task Force last night rescued seven adult pit bulls and eight puppies from the property of an alleged dog fighter near Kimberling City, MO in Stone County. Several of the dogs had old wounds and two adults had recent wounds – including one with a bloody eye. The dogs were found on a densely wooded hillside away from public view. Most of them were attached to heavy log chains and thick collars. The property was trash strewn and had dilapidated buildings with multiple abandoned trucks.
The Stone County Sheriff’s Department has been investigating this situation since last December and consulted with members of HSMO’s Animal Cruelty Task Force during the investigation. The Humane Society of Missouri was asked to assist with rescue of the dogs when the warrant was issued yesterday by the Stone County Sheriff. The owner of the pit bulls voluntary surrendered all of the rescued animals to the Humane Society of Missouri. The rescued dogs were taken to the Humane Society of Missouri’s Headquarters shelter in St. Louis City for triage and care. During the next several weeks, the dogs will receive thorough veterinary examinations and behavior evaluations with the goal of placing as many of them as possible with qualified rescue groups or in private homes.

Dog Fighting Legislation in Missouri
According to the Missouri Alliance for Animal Legislation two bills were introduced in the Missouri legislature regarding dog fighting - SB 632 and SB 664 - both failed. These bills were introduced to strengthen Missouri's dog fighting statute. Unfortunately, neither bill was ever given a hearing in the Senate Judiciary and Civil and Criminal Jurisprudence Committee and they failed to advance this session.
Fortunately for the more than 400 tortured dogs that were rescued in the most recent federal raid, the U.S. District Court was permitted to make a timely decision about the fate of these dogs (adoption, foster care, rehabilitation, etc.). In contrast, as a result of the Missouri General Assembly’s failure to pass dog fighting reforms, our state law still requires the victim dogs to be held until all criminal proceedings are resolved. If charges are brought now in Missouri state court, the seized animals must often remain in isolation for many months and even years!
Dog fighting is the only such animal cruelty crime that is currently exempted from this procedure in Missouri. Bills filed by Sen. Jane Cunningham of Chesterfield (SB 632) and Sen. Scott Rupp of St. Charles (SB 664) would fix this problem by strengthening Missouri's dog fighting statute. Both bills would allow a judge to hold a disposition hearing within 30 days of seizure to determine what happens to the dogs that are seized (i.e., adoption, foster care, rehabilitation).
SB 632 and SB 664 would also have increased the penalty for repeat spectators at a dog fight, giving law enforcement an important tool for cracking down on this barbaric “sport”. Rep. LeVota's HB 1689 would have prohibited anyone from possessing dog fighting paraphernalia. This bill would also have enhanced the criminal penalties for all second or subsequent dog fighting offenses.

Jade Black Dog Necklace Shelter Rescue Jewelry
This black dog necklace features amazing Czech glass dog heads that are double sided, very detailed. Black dog head beads remind me of Labrador Retriever dogs, but could represent greyhound, whippet, many other breeds including mutts. From them dangles a puffy Black Onyx heart and from that freely dangles a charming silver three dimensional dog bone.
I handcrafted this necklace with lots of Peridot Jade in graduated sizes, starting with big fat ones, combined with lots of little Black Onyx round beads. Incredibly charming dog lover necklace. Even the extender is accented with more gems and another dog bone.
This black dog necklace is another in a series at For Love of a Dog Jewelry to advocate awareness of Black Dog Syndrome and the plight of black dogs in shelters who are usually the last to be adopted only because they're black. Perfect gift for someone involved in dog rescue or simply happens to love a black dog. Visit For Love of a Dog for more unique handcrafted jewelry for dog lovers.

Horse Meat for Human Consumption in Missouri
In Missouri the Horse Slaughter - HB 1747 - FAILED. This bill attempted to circumvent the current federal ban in the United States against horse slaughter for the purpose of selling horse meat for human consumption.
Despite the fact that the federal government no longer permits the slaughter of horses for the purpose of selling horse meat for human consumption, this bill attempted to go around the federal ban. While the constitutionality of this proposal is questionable, the bill would allow the Missouri Department of Agriculture to regulate horse slaughter facilities and would have compensated the USDA for inspecting such facilities. Missouri would have been the only state in the country to have such a law.
