Adopt Chanel a Senior Pitbull Great Dane Dog in Missouri | Tuesdays Tails

Adopt Dipper and Parker a Bonded Pair of Senior Dogs @WaysideWaifs in KCMO

Dipper and Parker are a bonded pair of senior dogs that were rescued from a hoarding situation. They were kept outside without human contact so did not receive socialization. They were each adopted from Wayside Waifs animal shelter - separately. Both ran away from their new homes and ended up back at the shelter where staff realized this pair really needed to go to a home together.

Dipper is a 8 1/2 year old German Shepherd mix. Parker is a 6 1/2 year old male Terrier mix. They're an adorable, sweet pair!

Here's their adoption letter and their story:

Hi! We are Dipper and Parker. We don't want to bother you or take up much of your time, but we are looking for a home and we hope you might be just the person who is looking for us too. We are sweet and cuddly and very shy, until we get to know you. We are looking for kind, patient, and gentle people who will welcome both of us into their home and life. We know we're asking a lot from you and we know we're not the dogs for just anyone. But someone out there must need two sweet souls to brighten up their life, right? We have hope and faith that we can find the family who will love us for who we are and who will give us the life we deserved all along.

I, Dipper, am a handsome and distinguished, 9 year old, 47 pound, Shepherd mix. My best buddy is named Parker and he is an adorable and cuddly, 6 year old, Terrier mix. We are best friends. We lived together in an awful place with a dog hoarder. There were so many of us dogs there, neglected and lonely, just trying our best to survive. We didn't have the basics in life that so many dogs take for granted. We were kept outside without human contact. It was both exhilarating and terrifying the day we were rescued and brought to Wayside. Oh my, it's hard to describe the feelings we had. I spent my time trembling in fear at the thought of strangers coming near me. Parker and I were split up at that time, and I couldn't stop wondering how he was doing. It was only a few months ago, but it feels like a lifetime. It's been such a whirlwind since the day we first got to Wayside.

Since we were both shy and never socialized with people before, we spent awhile just getting acclimated to the human touch, walking on a leash, learning about dog beds and treats and couches...that sort of thing. At one point, we were both adopted, on the very same day, to different people. But as nice as our new families were, things just didn't work out for us there. We both ran away from our new homes and ended up back at Wayside. I've never been so happy to see anyone in my whole life as when Parker walked into my kennel! We comforted each other and joyfully played. It was a beautiful sight! And the Wayside staff realized that what we really needed was to go to a home together. We are more confident as a team. And we comfort each other through all the craziness of life. We were meant to be together and we can't wait to share our loyalty and devotion with you, too!

We hope you will be patient with us and give us plenty of time to adapt to our new home and life with you. It will take us longer than most dogs to feel comfortable and learn to relax with you and trust you. We will get there, but it will take time. We'll do best in a home with just a few people who we can deeply bond with and a home without a lot of activity going on. We love to be by your side and hope you'll be home a lot with us. We will thrive with a calm and positive energy around us. Please offer us positive reinforcement and let us know when we do good, by offering us gentle praise and tasty treats. We have never had anyone take the time to train us, but it's not too late! We are a couple of smart cookies and we love to learn! It makes us feel special when people care enough about us to teach us new things.

The Wayside staff will be happy to give you plenty of ideas to help us thrive in our new home. We hope you will give us lots of time to learn to trust you, understanding that everything is new and scary. Introduce us to new things a little at a time, and please keep in mind that we are trying our very best to fit in. Calm, quiet, and patient is how we hope you will be with us. We will do best in a home without kids under the age of 5, since their quick movements and loud voices are scary to us. And we both need to be closely supervised whenever we are outside. At this point, we are likely to run from you out of fear if we get loose. And Parker can climb a fence, so we will need to be on leash with you at all times when we are outdoors, at least for now. We don't want to scare you away from us, but we want to be sure you're the right person for us. We want to know up front that you are that special person who understands our quirks and challenges, but that you will love us anyway, because you want to make a difference in the lives of two sweet dogs who have never been given a break in life.

We know you're out there! You've been looking for us, but the timing just hasn't been right. And we've been looking for you, too. We've been waiting and figuring things out. Parker and I are finally together, ready for our new life to begin. And what a beautiful life it will be, as part of a real family. We're ready!

Adopt Boudreaux a Hound Mix Dog @WaysideWaifs in KCMO

This handsome boy is Boudreaux. He's a hound dog mix and nearly 2 years old. Even with lots of pep and energy, Boudreaux is fast learning to walk nicely on a leash. As you can see in his adoption video, he sits nicely for treats and loves running zoomies!

Here's what Boudreaux has to say about himself in his adoption message:

Hi there! I'm Boudreaux, a 1 ½ year old hound mix and I'm looking for a new home. I was transferred to Wayside from another shelter that had run out of space. I'm thankful for so many things here at Wayside - love and attention from the staff and volunteers, healthy food and treats, a nice, safe place to sleep. All of those things are nice, but I've spent way too much time in shelters lately. I'm ready to go home! I have dreams and plans for a fun, active life in a loving family, and I'm ready to start NOW!!! Please keep reading about me - maybe you'll realize that I'm the special one who's been missing from your life!

I'm a happy boy - big, fun and athletic, with lots of energy and ambition! I want a family who will appreciate my active, inquisitive personality. I love going on walks and exploring with my humans, and I have to admit I'm kind of passionate about chasing squirrels and other small critters! That particular talent of mine will come in very handy if you need some help chasing unwanted critters out of your yard, but when we're walking together on leash, it would be best if I wore a harness so you'll have better control if I get distracted. It's no big deal - I look very handsome in my harness, and lots of dogs wear them. It will make our walks much more pleasant for both of us.

Speaking of looking handsome, hopefully you noticed my pictures! I'm a real handsome guy, beautifully marked in champagne and white, and I've got a sleek, athletic build. I've been told I've got some of the softest silkiest ears ever! They're kind of irresistible to my human friends here at Wayside, and that's OK with me because I happen to LOVE ear rubs, especially after my daily exercise! Being a hound and all, I do love outside activities, but I also love people and want to be with my family wherever they are. Please don't leave me alone out in the yard for long periods of time - I could get bored and start looking for mischief! I hope I find a home where I'm included in family activities as much as possible. Hounds like me are goofy and fun, but can also become bored and anxious when separated too long from the people they love, and believe me....I will love you to pieces!!

Because of my need for lots of exercise and my high prey drive, I need a home with no cats, and no small furry critters, and I'd also love a large, well fenced yard. It's just that when I catch a good scent, I really want to go after it and I could have a tendency to jump. I know my family will want to keep me safe, and I sure wouldn't want to escape, get lost and worry them. A good fence will really help with all of that. Because I'm big and energetic, for now it would be best if there were no kids under 5 in my new home. It's just that I might accidently knock over a toddler, and I'd feel awful about that!

I like some other dogs, but I can be kind of rude in my play style with them, and I need to work on my doggy social skills. I really should meet all family members before going home - especially dogs and kids. I really want it to work out between us FOREVER, and whatever we can do up front to ensure that, I'm all for it!

I am a super smart and focused guy. I'm treat motivated and I already know how to sit when you ask. I'm very trainable, and I would definitely benefit from basic obedience training. The staff here at Wayside recommends positive reinforcement training. That's when I'm rewarded with praise and healthy treats when I'm a good boy. That helps me know what's expected of me, and I'll try my best to please you. Please ask the adoption counselor for more information about this. The folks here also think I'm at least partially housebroke, because I know to potty when I go outside. Please be patient with me though - it's hard to learn and maintain good house manners when you've lived in a shelter for a while. It may take a little time for me get used to my new environment, and learn what's expected of me in my new home. I promise your patience will be worth it!

Adopt Ava a #Pitbull #AustralianShepherd Mix Dog @WaysideWaifs in Kansas City

Lovely Ava is a 3 year old Australian Shepherd Pitbull mixed breed dog. Just look at Ava's beautiful eyes: one blue and brown eye - one brown eye!

Ava was picked up as a stray in Grandview, Missouri and is now at Wayside Waifs animal shelter in Kansas City, Missouri. It was a hard life on the streets as a homeless stray and Ava had the cuts and scars on her legs to prove it.

Ava is a shy gentle soul and here's her adoption letter:

Hello there, my name is Ava! I'm so glad you are reading about me, I am ready to find my forever home and I know I am in the right place here at Wayside to do that. I want to tell you all about myself in hopes that you are the right person for me!

I am a 3-year-old Australian Shepherd, Pit bull mix. I am told I have the most beautiful and unique eye coloring; I have one blue and brown eye and my other eye is brown. I am a gentle soul, and I can be a little shy and slow to warm up to you. Once I do you will see how sweet and loving I can be.

I came to Wayside when I was picked up as a stray in Grandview, MO. I am still a little confused and scared because I don't remember how I ended up getting lost and being homeless, but I do remember how lonely I felt! I was tired, not feeling good, and I didn't know whom to trust. I'm so lucky that I ended up at Wayside and got the help I needed so much! When I first got here, I was really sad and scared. I had some small cuts and scars on my back legs and tested positive for heartworms. I am on medicine now and my small cuts are starting to heal too! I don't like to think about those scary times now, because I am ready to put them behind me.

I am looking forward to a home with a patient family, warm bed and lots of belly rubs. I'll just need a little time to get used to my surroundings once I go home with my new family. I know they'll be patient while I get settled in and warm up. I'll need a home without kids under 5 years old. I hope someday I'll be fine around small children, but for now, I think this is best. Since I am still unsure of strangers, small children might startle me. I am working on trust so I hope in the future I can be around all kids. Please bring all dogs and human family members out to meet me; just to be sure everyone gets along before we go home together.

I promise I will be the best snuggling buddy ever! Once I warm up in the home, I would love to continue training just nice and slow because I am one laid back girl. I tend to pull a little on my leash just because am I so excited to walk around with my human friends. I might need a refresher course on house training, but I know we can work on it together.

Adopt Azalea a Pit Bull Mixed Breed Dog at Wayside Waifs in Kansas City

This pretty girl is Azalea. She a Terrier, American Staffordshire, Hound mixed breed dog at Wayside Waifs animal shelter in Kansas City, MO.

Azalea is only 22 months old and quite a beauty. She found herself at Wayside Waifs after being picked up as a stray. She must have had some very hard times on the street, because when she first arrived at the shelter she was very afraid of people. She's come a long way in building her confidence and learning to trust again.

Here's Azalea's adoption message:

Hello there! My name is Azalea and I am a beautiful 1 and a half year old American Staffordshire Terrier/Hound. I came in to Wayside as a stray when animal control found me wandering the streets. It was hard not having a home to call my own at such a young age. I'm so thankful I ended up at Wayside. I have made so many good friends and for the first time in a long time, I finally feel safe. Everyone tells me this is the place where I will find my new family. I want to tell you a little about myself in the hopes that you might be the family for me!

When I first got to Wayside Waifs I was so scared. I didn't understand that people could be so kind and loving. The staff felt it was best for me to start working with a team of volunteers who work with shy and fearful dogs like me. I'm so glad I did, because I am like a different dog today! I wanted to so badly to be loved and for someone to notice what a good girl I was. I can't believe it, but they did! They worked with me slowly on how to trust again, and gave me an avenue where I could build up my confidence. One of my friends here started working with me on agility. I love learning how to do the course and she says I've gotten so good at it! She says that I complete everything in the agility course in the order I'm supposed to and how quickly I've picked up on things! It feels so good to hear such positive things about myself. It's a new feeling but a girl could definitely get used to it!

The staff thinks it is best if I go to a home with kids over 5 years old. Since it can still take me awhile to warm up, I think it's best for now. Even though I've come such a long way, it will be important to go slow with me when we first meet. Once I get to know you, I will show you my sweet and playful side! I love to cuddle and be close to you, it's how I show you the love I have for you. I really want to go home with someone who will help me get daily mental and physical stimulation. Going for walks and playing will help me to become a well-rounded dog! Since I'm still a young girl, I will most likely need work on housetraining and basic obedience. I want more than anything to make you happy so with positive reinforcement training and patience, I should learn quickly! What I need most is someone who will take a chance on me and show me how wonderful life really is. I've been through more in my short life than I care to admit, but it doesn't stop me from trying to live to the fullest!

Adopt Sophie a Senior Harrier Hound Dog in Missouri

This pretty girl is Sophie. She's an 8 year old senior tricolor Harrier dog. Sophie walks very nicely on a leash. She'd would love a family that took her for walks so she could sniff, explore and enjoy the outdoors. Sophie is a friendly, gentle girl who just needs somebody to love.

According to the American Kennel Club, the Harrier is a scent hound developed in England to hunt hare in packs. Though Harriers are a smaller version of the English Foxhound, they are still a sturdy, large-boned dog. Harriers excel in tracking and agility. Outgoing and friendly, Harriers are pack dogs. They get along well with other animals and are very people oriented. Very intelligent, Harriers can be easily trained.

Adopt Butler a Senior Lab Pit Bull Mix Dog in Kansas City

This handsome fellow is Butler. He's a mostly Labrador Retriever mixed breed dog currently calling Wayside Waifs animal shelter home where staff believe there might be some Pit Bull Terrier, too. Regardless of the breeds, Butler is a sweet boy who needs a forever home. At over 7 year old, Butler is a senior dog, but he still has a lot of living to do.

Here's his adoption message:

Hello there, I'm Butler! I am a happy, sweet, loving dog, just searching for a brand new home to call my own. I hope maybe you will be my new family. I hope we will find each other and celebrate many happy years together as best friends and loyal companions. I need you in my life and hope you need me too.

I am a handsome, 7 year old, 51 pounds of pure sweetness, Lab mix. Staff thinks I might have a little Pit Bull Terrier as part of my mix, but it's hard to say. Whatever my heritage, I'm proud of the wonderful dog I am. I'm beautiful, both inside and out, with a lovely chocolaty color fur. And besides my good looks, I can't wait to show you my incredible personality and zest for life. Did you notice my adoption fee is half price, because of my senior status? I hope you won't pass me by because of my age though, because age is just a number and I've got lots of living left to do! In fact, I have some lost time to make up for. I think I had sort of a tough life so far, so I hope I will be spoiled and doted on in my new home.

I came to Wayside as a stray from Grandview, MO, and my owner was contacted, but never came for me. I imagine he misses me and I'm sure there's a good reason that he didn't come. Maybe he thought a new family is what I need in my life right now. In any case, I've forgiven him and am now ready to move on with my wonderful life. I seem to be at least partially housetrained, because I keep my kennel clean and try my best to hold it until I get outside. Please be patient with me though, when we get home, as I get used to my new routine with you. I'm already a volunteer favorite! They love my gentle and calm spirit and they think I am one pretty special dog! I walk just perfectly on my leash, right by your side, so proud to be with you. And I love to get out in the fresh air. I'm a friendly and social dog who loves to be near my people.

I'm treat motivated and very smart, so training me is a cinch. I already know how to sit, which I am happy to do, especially if you have a tasty treat. I do have sort of a hard mouth and sometimes I grab for my treat, but I'm working on that and it's an easy thing to teach me to take my treats gently. I love to learn and love to make you happy, so please teach me and show me when I do something you like, so that I can repeat my good behavior! In general, I like other dogs just fine and I'm appropriate in my play, but if you do have another, I'd love to meet them before we go home, to see how we do together. Same with all the people in the family. I'll probably be happiest in a home without kids under the age of 5, and I want to meet the whole family, please.

I'm a people pleasing, happy go lucky, tail wagging sort of dog who loves to be by your side. What more can you ask for? I will make such a wonderful addition to your life, if you'll just give me a chance. Please, I'm waiting for you now and am so ready for our new life together to begin.

Adopt Zealand a Pit Bull Dog at Stray Rescue St Louis

One look at this beautiful boy and my heart melted. Just look at those awesome ears! How can you resist one ear up and one ear down? Zealand is a handsome boy and a favorite of the Stray Rescue of St Louis animal shelter staff and volunteers.

And it's not all his good looks. Zealand came to Stray Rescue scared and confused. He quickly learned that people are good and once he decides he like you, he is yours forever.

Zealand is a male Pit Bull Terrier mix. He's about 4 years old and weighs 66 pounds.

Recently Zealand got to go on a five mile hike with some of his shelter buddies. On the way to the hiking site, he was an excellent car rider who enjoyed watching everything out the window. Zealand was very excited to get started on the trails, but willingly slowed down on command. During the hike he was not reactive to other dogs or people, he just wanted to smell as much as he could.

One of Zealand's human friends describes him as awesome and wonderful, as well as handsome, of course.

Adopt Liberty Belle a Black Pit Bull Dog in Kansas City

This gorgeous girl is Liberty Belle. She's a 3 1/2 year old Pit Bull Terrier mix. She was transferred to Wayside Waifs from another shelter that was running out of space. These days she's one of the Waif Runners and she loves doing tricks.

I bet you're here because you saw that gorgeous picture of me, right? Well guess what?! I am pleased you stopped by! My name as you can see is Liberty Bell. I'm a 3 year old American Pit Bull Terrier mix, and let me just say I'm an energetic sweetheart!

I was transferred in from another shelter because they were running out of space, but I just know I'll find my forever home soon! Since I haven't been in a home for a while I'll definitely need some reminding on my manners while in a home, but if you'll have patience with me we can do it together!

I bet you can tell by looking at me that I have a lot of muscle. Here at Wayside I'm on the team of Waif Runners! They say if you want an endorphin rush to run with me! I'm awesome, focused, have plenty of speed AND endurance! I'm all business on a run, which shows how amazing I am on a leash, even when there are barking dogs I'm more focused on the finish line.

I do know a few tricks too! I know sit, down and even how to stand on my back legs and walk just like a person! They say I need to meet all new family members before going home, but I can't wait! Don't forget to bring any canines you already have to meet me too!

This handsome gentleman is Buddy. He's a 5 year old Labrador Retriever / German Shepherd Dog mix. He's got a beautiful brown and white coat. Just look at that white "tuxedo bib" and that white on the tip of his tail!

Buddy has a very gentle nature. He's a master at offering his belly for a rub because he loves people. He's love a home where there are lots of cuddles available and he wouldn't mind some walks, too.
