Adopt Liberty Belle a Black Pit Bull Dog in Kansas City

This gorgeous girl is Liberty Belle.  She's a 3 1/2 year old Pit Bull Terrier mix.  She was transferred to Wayside Waifs from another shelter that was running out of space.  These days she's one of the Waif Runners and she loves doing tricks.

Here's Liberty Belle's adoption letter:
I bet you're here because you saw that gorgeous picture of me, right? Well guess what?! I am pleased you stopped by! My name as you can see is Liberty Bell. I'm a 3 year old American Pit Bull Terrier mix, and let me just say I'm an energetic sweetheart!

I was transferred in from another shelter because they were running out of space, but I just know I'll find my forever home soon! Since I haven't been in a home for a while I'll definitely need some reminding on my manners while in a home, but if you'll have patience with me we can do it together!
I bet you can tell by looking at me that I have a lot of muscle. Here at Wayside I'm on the team of Waif Runners! They say if you want an endorphin rush to run with me! I'm awesome, focused, have plenty of speed AND endurance! I'm all business on a run, which shows how amazing I am on a leash, even when there are barking dogs I'm more focused on the finish line.
I do know a few tricks too! I know sit, down and even how to stand on my back legs and walk just like a person! They say I need to meet all new family members before going home, but I can't wait! Don't forget to bring any canines you already have to meet me too!

Well, that's all for now. I can't wait to get started on my new life!

XOXO,  Liberty Belle

One look at Liberty Belle's adoption video and you'll see what a sweetheart she is!  Take a look and then give Wayside Waifs a call at  816-761-8151.  Her animal ID number is 22884301

Tennis Ball Dog Jewelry at For Love of a Dog

Yesterday I announced the August giveaway winner of a copper Fetch Dog Bone Necklace.  This giveaway provoked a lot of interest and special orders, including one from someone intending to use it as memorial jewelry.  Their pittie, Rocky, loved tennis balls, so I personalized the dog bone with Rocky's name instead of fetch.  What a wonderful idea!

It's not only retrievers who love a good game of fetch, plus many of my jewelry pieces can be personalized as memorial jewelry.  In fact, any of these bracelets and necklaces can be personalized with your dog's name.

The tennis ball dog bone bracelet shown at top is a festive choice in hot summer colors.  Red coral gemstone beads are combined with some wild handmade lampwork beads and porcelain tennis balls.  They frame the FETCH stamped silver dog bone. I love the large paw print lobster claw clasp and I (heart) My Dog / paw print double sided charm.

Shown above is a similar bracelet with jet black and citrine crystals combined with beautiful floral lampwork beads.  Love the black with those yellow tennis balls!

For those who prefer vintage style, I suggest you fetch the bracelet above.  A daisy lampwork bead, crystals, snow quartz gemstone beads, sweet yellow flower, plus a very cool floral brass toggle clasp.  And tennis balls, of course!

Here's a Fetch Tennis Ball Dog Bone Necklace like our giveaway, but in gold.

Remember, most of my jewelry are one of a kind pieces, so if you see something you like snag it now!  Need something personalized?  Don't be afraid to ask!

Shop For Love of a Dog now with a 10% discount on your entire order (which all come with free shipping to US addresses) with this code:  FLDNEW

Celebrate National Dog Day on August 26

Jeffie is smiling because today is National Dog Day!

Rosie is sure treats, Jolly ball,
and tummy rubs are involved.

Rudy knows every day is Dog Day at our house!

Founded in 2004 by pet lifestyle expert and author Colleen Paige, National Dog Day was created to honor dogs more than we currently do, to give them "a day", to show deep appreciation for our long connection to each other - for their endearing patience, unquestioning loyalty, for their work, their capacity for love and their ability to impact our lives every day in the most miraculous ways.

Happy National Dog Day
from all of us at

No Barking Allowed | Monday Mischief

Jeffie wonders why he's not supposed to bark at the deer.

We've been having a bit of mischief almost every night this summer.  You may remember me telling you about the deers that have stashed their babies just on the other side of the creek from our backyard.  (Babysitting Bambo part 1 and part 2)  Over the years they've learned that we will not harm them, though they're still a bit wary of the dogs.

Just about every night they come through browsing along the creek and playing in the pond.  However, one evening I wasn't watching closely enough.  I let the dogs out only to realize the whole herd, along with several fawns, were taking a break in the pond.

Here are 3 of the 13 member deer herd that visit us regularly.

The dogs thought "at last" and raced out barking.  The deer scattered.

A couple of days later we realized the deer had sent in a "first alert" volunteer.
The "guard deer" at alert just 20 foot from the house.

This doe remained in the yard at alert, obviously watching for dogs or any danger.  The rest of the herd was frolicking in the pond.  She remained until the last moment possible.  As the herd bounded up the hill, she leaped over the fence and joined them.
Rudy and Jeffie watch the deer herd move off for the night.

Don't forget to enter our August giveaway!

Adopt Buddy a Lab Shepherd Dog in Missouri

This handsome gentleman is Buddy.  He's a 5 year old Labrador Retriever / German Shepherd Dog mix.  He's got a beautiful brown and white coat.  Just look at that white "tuxedo bib" and that white on the tip of his tail!

Buddy has a very gentle nature.  He's a master at offering his belly for a rub because he loves people.  He's love a home where there are lots of cuddles available and he wouldn't mind some walks, too.

Buddy has become a favorite at the Humane Society of Missouri Maryland Heights animal shelter.  Take a look at Buddy's adoption video, then give them a call at 314-951-1588.  Buddy's animal ID number is A461115

Fancy Parody by Iggy Azalea | Dog Song Saturday

It's Dog Song Saturday at Talking Dogs!  Most of my favorites are original songs written for or about dogs.  However, I sometimes just can't resist "dog songs" that are just plain fun.   Like this one:  Fancy.  It's another very clever parody from the folks at The Pet Collective.

Fancy - Iggy Azalea parodies the popular hit  Royals by Lorde.  Adorable video of dogs and puppies all dressed up "fancy."

Sit.  Stay.  Relax and enjoy Iggy Azalea - Fancy by dogs music video.  Then fetch more dogs songs.  You'll be surprised at how many we've found!

Favorite Dog Bone Jewelry Gifts at For Love of a Dog

Recently I've shared some of my favorite new creations including "The Rosie" and "Big Heart" necklaces.  Since our August giveaway is a copper dog bone necklace, I thought I'd share a few of my favorite pieces of dog bone jewelry.

Because most of my dogs have been mixed breed mutts, my dog breed jewelry just doesn't cut it for me personally.  Dog bones have been my favorite theme for years and I still love them.

It's hard to pick a favorite from, but I think I'd have to say I simply adore the turquoise lampwork bracelet shown above.  I know some don't like the term "dog mom,"  but around my house I am the dog mama and my dogs are my favorite babies.  I love the pretty white and turquoise daisy floral lampwork beads combines with sparkling turquoise faceted crystal rondelle beads.  Plus, the dog collar and dog bone toggle clasp makes me smile.

Here's another one of kind favorite from my rescue dog bone themed pieces,
my Adopt a Best Friend Dog Bone Lampwork Bracelet shown below:

I like the lively color combination of deep sky blue with deep rose and a hint of peridot green.  Such pretty little roses on these handmade lampwork beads.  Besides, I love the message of adopting a best friend.

The WOOF dog bone necklace shown below appeals to me because of it's neutral caramel and biscuit brown colors.  Plus, it's so much fun!

Awhile back I imported some Ojime dog carvings from a craftsman in Hong Kong. They're rare and lovely!  I used one in in this dog bone and freshwater pearl necklace:

Though I'd have to say I really enjoy wearing almost all the styles of dog bone themed earrings I create, I dearly love dog bones combined with hearts like in these earrings shown below.  These could easily be called "For Love of a Dog Earrings."
OMD, it is so hard to just pick a few favorites to share with you!  If I could keep and wear them all, I probably would.  However, For Love of a Dog keeps me from being a dog jewelry hoarder!

Fetch more dog bone themed jewelry and so much more from my online shop.  You'll find barking good gifts for dog, cat and horse lovers.

Chewy.com Beach Party

A couple of weeks ago I told you about the very special summer surprise box I received from our pals at Chewy.com   It was filled with all sorts of goodies, like a party in a box!

Because I genuinely love to shop at Chewy,  I'm a member of their blogging team of pet product reviewers.  Living in a rural area with extremely limited selection, I love Chewy.com for their great selection of dog toys, treats, supplements, food and more.

Today I'm thrilled to join others in the Chewy pet blogger team in a pawsome pawty to celebrate and to bark our thanks to Chewy.com!

The Talking Dogs weren't able to actually go to the beach, but that didn't stop them from having a Chewy beach pawty!

Thank you, Chewy!

Adopt Darrel a Pit Bull Chick Magnet at Wayside Waifs

This handsome fellow is Darrel and he's a chick magnet!  According to staff and volunteers at Wayside Waifs in Kansas City - where he is a favorite - Darrel is quite the ladies man and loves to give kisses.

Darrel is a 6 year old Pit Bull Terrier mix.  He was picked up as a stray and is being treated for heartworm and fly bites.  It's a hard life on the streets.

As you'll see in Darrel's adoption video, not only does he love people, he has excellent leash manners and already knows basic commands.

Here's Darrel's adoption message:

Hi there, I'm Darrel. I might just be the sweetest, most loving dog you'll ever have the pleasure of meeting. I know, you've known lots of dogs in your life...but the people I've met here at Wayside say there's just something extra special about me. I make you feel good. I make you feel so loved. I make you feel like the most important person on earth. It's just the way I am and the only way I know how to be. Everyone needs someone like me in their life, don't you think?

I am a handsome and cuddly, 6 year old, 46 pounds of solid love, Pit Bull Terrier mix who came to Wayside as a stray via the Belton, MO animal control people. Life has been rough for me, so it's pretty remarkable how I got to be so sweet and affectionate. I'm a perfect example of how resilient dogs can be. I've already forgotten all the bad in my life and I live for today. I live for all the new friends I've met and the hopeful future that's now in front of me. I've spent the last month or so recuperating and I'm ready for my new life to begin! The scars on my ears from the relentless fly bites during the hot summer months will heal, as will the other sores on my body. And I'll get cured from the heartworm that I picked up along the way, too. Those things will soon be part of my past. I hope that in my new home, I will be loved and cared for the way I deserve, so that I don't have to endure these things any longer. I want to live inside, with you by my side, safe and secure and loved and cared for.

I am sort of a shy and timid boy, at least until I get to know you. Once I have time to warm up to you though, I am the most loyal dog in all the world and I love to soak up all the attention you'll give me. I can't get enough of it! Please just give me time though, especially when we first get home, so that I can learn to trust you and relax with you. Be gentle and patient with me as I learn what you expect from me. Show me when I do good, by offering me your love and praise and a tasty treat every now and then. I will be a devoted companion for you for the rest of my life, once I figure it all out.

I have quickly become a favorite of the volunteers at Wayside! I am calm and affectionate. I love to go for walks and I do just great on my leash, never pulling. I love to be by your side, feeling your gentle touch and listening to you tell me what a good boy I am. I will cuddle with you and give you kisses, if you like that. I am just an all around wonderful dog and total sweetheart!

I do want to meet the whole family before we go home together, including all the kids and any other dogs you have. Truth be told, I would love to be your only dog, but I might get along fine with other dogs who stay calm and laidback with me and who know how to give me my space. I like to keep a big bubble around me where other dogs are concerned. With kids, well, sometimes their quick and unpredictable movements are scary to me. I'll be happiest without kids under the age of 5. Besides, I'm looking for a more calm and quiet home, so young kids don't really fit in with my plans.

I am just a simple and sweet dog. I'm not looking for anything extra exciting in my life. A consistent routine with people I love sounds wonderful to me. I want to feel safe and wanted and loved. I want to show you the joy I can bring into your life, just by having me around. I want to be your best friend and loyal companion for the rest of my life. That's all.
Love, Darrel
Be sure to watch Darrel's adoption video to see just how sweet this boy is and then give Wayside Waifs a call at 816-761-8151.  Darrel's animal ID number is
23117829.

Big Heart Big Love for Dogs | New Jewelry at For Love of a Dog

Last week I shared one of my new creations with you - the black Lab lampwork and crystal necklace that I was tempted to simply call "The Rosie."   I promised that I'd share the other piece that is a current personal favorite of mine.   And here it is.

Somehow it just seems right that a necklace for a dog lover would have a HUGE heart and lots of dog bones.  Am I right?  Of course I'm right.  BIG LOVE is what it's all about.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words.  I'm thinking this necklace pretty much illustrates my business name:  For Love of a Dog.

While going through my stash of pendants and charms, I came across two super size chunky red sponge coral hearts.  Simple, a bit primitive, scarlet red color, and, let's face it, hunky!

This red coral heart is 3/4" thickl and 1 1/4" in diameter.

So spectacular that I didn't want the necklace itself to distract from the statement of the heart.  So, I surrounded it with some great fat coral 14mm round beads and some wonderful three dimensional cream colored dog bones.  All hand wire wrapped with silver jeweler's wire.

I present to you the quintessential For Love of a Dog necklace:

This is a one of a kind necklace.  Wait a minute (that's what you're thinking.)  I said I found two of these humongous red coral hearts squirreled away in my studio.   Right.  However, I'm saving the last one for me!

You can fetch a look at all my new dog jewelry here.  I've recently made some beautiful dog breed necklaces and bracelets.  You can fetch your favorite dog breed here.

In fact, while you're at For Love of a Dog Jewelry, be sure to check out my items on sale.  You'll find drastic reductions on dog leash holders, plus Rainbow Bridge jewelry and dog breed Christmas ornaments are on sale right now, too!

And if you decide to do some shopping with me, be sure to use this code at checkout to receive 10% off your entire order: FLDVIP    Plus, you'll receive free shipping to US addresses!

Just a bit of shameless self promotion since, after all, Talking Dogs is the official blog of For Love of a Dog Jewelry!
