Cruel Summer for Animals

Summertime often makes us think of vactions and long, beautiful sunny days. But for pets in some parts of our country, summer can be the most dangerous time of the year.

Animals who are chained to trees or fences and left outside to fend for themselves suffer from dehydration and overheating. Too many pets are abandoned by careless humans in backyards or garages, without enough food or water.
 During the summer of 2009, the  Humane Society of Missouri  helped 7,216 animals and spayed or neutered 4,902. Kathy Warnick, President of the HSMO says summer is one of their busiest time. Cats and dogs are just as vulnerable to hot weather as people. Their Animal Cruelty Task Force is constantly bringing in animals in desperate need of shelter, food and medical care.



If you can, send your local Humane Society or animal shelter a little something to help out this summer. Or give them a call and see if they have in-kind needs that you can help with. You’d be surprised how little it takes to make a very big difference.
