See You Again by Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth | Dog Song Saturday

Today's Dog Song Saturday featured tune has become one of our favorites.  Here at Talking Dogs we're still very much missing our Jeffie and this song speaks to our heart.

Though not an original song about dogs, See You Again makes a wonderful theme song for a tribute video like this one.  Created by an anonymous dog owner in honor of her beloved dog, Tessa who passed away last summer.

See You Again is a Wiz Khalifa song performed by singer Charlie Puth.   The song is a hip hop and pop-rap ballad written by DJ Frank E, Charlie Puth, Wiz Khalifa and Andrew Cedar.  It won Best Song at the Critics Choice and Nickelodeon Kids' Choice awards this year (2016).

Have a listen to the lyrics and we're pretty sure they'll touch your heart and inspire memories of your pets who've crossed the rainbow bridge.
So let the light guide your way, yeah
Hold every memory as you go
And every road you take, will always lead you home...
Sit. Stay. Take a moment to remember those beloved furry friends you've lost with See You Again.   Then fetch more dog song music videos at Talking Dogs.  You'll be surprised at how many we've collected over the past few years!

Adopt Harley a #Hound #Dog @WaysideWaifs in #KCMO

This beautiful boy is Harley.  He's almost 2 years old and was a stray before he found himself at the animal shelter.  He's a bit shy of strangers and would really like a quiet forever home.

Harley is house trained and also know the commands shake, look, stay, sit, down, come, off, drop it and leave it!  Read more about Harley in his adoption message:
Hey there, I'm Harley! I'm an adorable hound mix weighing about 43 pounds who was found as a stray then brought here to Wayside Waifs! I'm so happy I made my way here because I'm getting the second chance at life that I deserve. I can't wait to find my peeps and get to my new home. Strangers can be a bit scary so I'll need to have time to warm up to my people and really get comfortable. I'll do best with children over the age of 5 and as the only furry friend in the house. I'll enjoy a nice, quiet home so I can relax.
Exercise is an important part of any happy, healthy pup's life so let's get active! I love to explore the world on walks or romp around the backyard. I have a pretty moderate energy level so when we're done getting our workout in I won't mind curling up next to you for a relaxing, afternoon snuggle. Belly rubs welcomed! I'm super smart and already know lots of commands such as shake, look, stay, sit, down, come, off, drop it, and leave it. I'm also house trained! With continued training and extra motivation from yummy treats or fun toys I know I'll be able to learn even more! If a handsome, smart guy is what you're looking for in a companion then you've hit the jack pot. Come meet me soon at Wayside Waifs!

Adopt Suzie a Black #Lab #ShelterDog @WaysideWaifs in #KCMO #OpttoAdopt

Meet Suzie!  This cute girl is a small Lab mix who is 3 years old.  She's hoping for a loving forever home with people who will take her on walks, teach her a few tricks and let her love them.

Here's Suzie's adoption message:
Hey there! I'm Suzie, an adorable, Retriever/Lab mix, weighing about 48 pounds and looking for a place to call my own. I was transferred here when my last shelter ran out of space for me. I was pretty bummed but now I see that here I have the best chance at meeting the right peeps for me. I may do best as the queen of my castle when it comes to other animals but I'll do grr-eat with children.
I have a lot of energy to spare and will need a home where I can stay active! I love to get out and explore the world on walks and the peeps here say I do pretty well sticking right by your side on my leash instead of pulling ahead. I'm super smart and know a lot of commands already like sit, down, come, look, target, and off!
With continued training and extra motivation from yummy treats I know I'll be able to learn even more from you! It won't take long for me to learn exactly what you expect from me and become the companion you've always dreamed of. I can't wait to get to my fur-ever home and show my peeps just how much love and affection I have to offer. I hope you'll come meet me soon to find out if those peeps could be you! Tail wags for stopping by my page.
Love,  Suzie

One More Day by Diamond Rio | Dog Song Saturday

Another Dog Song Saturday here at Talking Dogs and we've got a new tune for you.

Okay, One More Day by Diamond Rio is technically a song about a dog, however it really is a perfect song for dog lovers.   In today's music video selection Becky Loechelt has used it as the theme song for a tribute to her dog, Ruby.

One More Day was written by Bobby Tomberlin and Steven Dale Jones; recorded and released by Diamond Rio in 2000.

Have a listen to the lyrics and we're sure you'll agree that you, too, would like one more day with your beloved pet.
Last night I had a crazy dream
A wish was granted just for me. It could be for anything.
I didn't ask for money or a mansion in Malibu.
I simply wished for one more day with you.
Sit. Stay. Take a break and enjoy One More Day by Diamond Rio. Then fetch more dog song music videos at Talking Dogs.  You'll be surprised at how many we've collected over the past few years!

Say Neigh to Premarin and Equine Cruelty #BTC4A

Before we began farming with draft horses I had never heard of PMU horses.  That's what the mares used to produce the drug Premarin are called. When I found out about them and the cruel lives they have on what are essentially factory farms, it broke my heart.

Premarin is a common drug prescribed to millions of women world wide as a hormone replacement therapy.  The name stands for PREgant MAres uRINe since the drug is produced from the hormones naturally present in the mare's urine.

PMU mares are usually Belgian draft horses or Belgian / Quarter Horse crosses.  Mares are kept in continuous cycles of pregnancy until they can no longer get in foal.  For most of their 11 month pregnancies, these horses are confined to stalls so small that they cannot turn around or even take more than one step in any direction.  Each wears a catheter and rubber urine collection bag at all times which often causes chafing and lesions.

Rarely are they allowed to freely drink water since that would dilute the concentration of their urine. With no exercise they can't even stretch their muscles or flex their joints as any horse would naturally do.  The average lifespan for these horse breeds is usually around 24 years.  PMU urine line mares live to be around 8 years old.

The mares only go off the urine line to give birth to their foals and be impregnated again.  This cycle is not only cruel to the PMU mares, but it has created an overabundance of unwanted foals, most of who end up sold to the slaughter industry. It's estimated that a filly foal has a 90% chance of going to slaughter;  a colt foal 99% chance.
"See the foals - and the mares which can't get pregnant any more - they are the byproduct of the PMU industry.  ...We crush 'em and recycle 'em, just like [aluminum] cans."
~ Canadian Slaughterhouse Buyer
Beginning with the introduction of Premarin in the 1940's, it's estimated more than 1 million foals have been slaughtered thanks to the production of this family of drugs alone.

The number of PMU farms in North America has decreased over the years from 400 at the peak of manufacture to about 26 currently according some sources.  However, like so many other things these days, PMU farm are springing up in other places like China and Kazakhstan.

What you can do:
If you currently take Premarin, Prempak-C or Premphase, ask your doctor about equally effective synthetic or plant based alternaties like:
  • Cenestin
  • Estrace
  • Estraderm
  • Ogen
  • OrthoEst
  • Estratab
  • Menest
  • Estinyl
  • Estrovirus
  • OrthoDienestrol
  • Tace
  • Climara

I Think My Dog is a Democrat by Bryan Lewis | Dog Song Saturday

Okay, everybody loosen up, take off your judgey pants and dust off your sense of humor.  Today  we have a political offering for Dog Song Saturday.

On March 22 country musician Bryan Lewis appeared on WTVN Radio to perform his new song I Think My Dog's a Democrat.  Our pals John and Ace over at Ohmidog posted this video and it set us to woofing.

I'm a self-confessed radical liberal and after listening to the lyrics, I'd guess that composer Lewis is...  not.   However, there aren't enough dog songs in the world and this one is actually pretty clever.

Sit. Stay. Have a listen to I Think My Dog's a Democrat.  Fetch more dog songs and music videos at Talking Dogs.  You'll be surprised at how many we've collected over the years.

Run Rudy Run! | Wordless Wednesday

Run! Rudy! Run!

Rosie and Rudy love their Chuckit! Flying Squirrel.  Though the dynamic duo frequently engage in tandem retrieving, sometimes Rudy steps on the gas and outruns his little sis.  If she can't grab the toy, she might just grab Rudy's collar.  Then the poor guy drags her along for the ride.
