Adopt Baxter an American #Foxhound Dog @WaysideWaifs in #KCMO

This sweet guy is Baxter.  He's a 6 year old American Foxhound mix with such a sweet face.  Baxter is a medium size boy who's looking for a best friend who will make sure he gets lots of walks and playtime.

Here's Baxter's adoption message:
"Hi, I'm Baxter! Wayside took me in when the shelter I was at ran out of space for me. It's okay though, because I love it here and I've been given the second chance at life that I deserve. I'm a good-looking fellow with the sweetest face, as you can see in my photos, weighing in at about 44 pounds. I'll do best in a home with children over the age of 5 and I'll need to meet all my new family members before I go home.

I'm a hound so my instinct is to sniff and explore my surroundings. I would love to get out on a leash and take walks with you so I can discover the world around me. I'm an energetic fellow so I need plenty of physical and mental exercise in my new home. I'm eager to learn as much as I can from you and I'm especially motivated by yummy treats. If you're looking for a sweet guy like me to make a grrr-eat addition to your home, come visit me soon at Wayside Waifs!Woofs, Baxter"

Rudy thinks taste testing new dog treats is very serious business.

The minute I opened the bag I was pretty sure my dogs would think this little dog cookies were a true treat.  They smell delicious and my dog agree. The cute little pumpkins impressed in each cookie make them Halloween pawty worthy!

I love the healthy ingredients, but do wish they were not so high in calorie.  Fine for Rudy, but they'll need to be rationed carefully for Jeffie and Rosie.

New Jewelry Gifts for Dog Lovers @ForLoveofaDog

Check out this adorable new dog lover bracelet from For Love of a Dog.  That cute puppy is hand carved from aventurine and reminds me of a little hound dog.  I surrounded it with blue turquoise beads and a sweet paw print lobster claw clasp.  The dog carving is unusual and this bracelet is one of a kind.

Dog bone jewelry is always a great gift idea for dog lovers and I've just added these two bracelets at For Love of a Dog.

The dog bone bracelet shown above includes a three dimensional porcelain dog bone, jet black crystal beads and some beautiful encased roses floral beads.  Heart shaped love my dog charm adds a finishing touch.

I love the handmade lampwork dog bone in this bracelet.  Beautiful earthy green transparent glass.  Teamed with dragonskin turquoise and a fetching dog collar and dog bone toggle, it's a one of a kind.

Remember... I'm no longer making the little dog breed charms or Christmas ornaments, so shop your favorite dog breed jewelry now before these pieces are gone.  Right now all of my WOOF dog bone jewelry is on sale.  If you're not already shopping for the holidays, maybe you should be!

Adopt Hanson #CataholulaLeopardDog @WaysideWaifs in #KCMO | Tuesday Tails

This beautiful boy is Hanson.  He's a 4 year old Mississippi born Catahoula Leopard Dog mix.  Hanson really is a striking dog with one blue eye, one brown eye and a beautiful black, gray and white fur coat.

Here's Hanson's adoption message:
Hi there, my name is Hanson....that's spelled H-A-N-D-S-O-M-E. Just a little joke, but I am a very good looking guy. I'm a 4 year old Catahoula Leopard Dog mix, and my coat is just the right combination of black, gray and white. You probably can't see it in my photo, but my eyes are unique. One is brown and one is a striking blue, which is handy when I want to flirt!

I was transferred to Wayside from the Humane Society of South Mississippi. I'm a little underweight right now and that's probably because of being nervous and not having a loving family to make sure I stayed healthy. The good people here are feeding me all kinds of yummy things now, and making sure I'm as healthy as can be. I'm sure I'll get back in shape quickly. I feel so much better now that I'm here, and sure hope I'll find my forever home soon.
I hope I can convince you to come and meet me, because I know you'd be impressed with how loveable and smart I am. I will sit on command, and I take treats very nicely. I am well-mannered (except around squirrels...they drive me crazy) and just SO interested in all there is to see on my walks. I mean, I want to explore and sniff just about everything! I need to make up for all those days when I didn't have a loving human to show me around. I'll do best if walked with a harness since all my enthusiasm makes me pull on the leash a bit.

In my new home (which I hope is yours!) I would love to learn more basic commands and doggie obedience skills. I'm motivated by praise and food, so I should learn quickly. I would love to play games with you that would stimulate me mentally and entertain both of us!
Bragging is really not my thing, but some people here say I'm "beautiful" and my eyes are "enchanting!" I think you should come out and see for yourself...that would really make me happy. When you come to meet me, please bring all the members of your family and any furry members too...just to make sure we all get along. I can't wait to meet you and I know you won't be disappointed. Just ask for me, Handsome Hanson! And please come soon!

Kisses and wags,  Hanson

Dog Jewelry to Woof About @ForLoveofaDog

We're barking about some new jewelry at For Love of a Dog.  Barking seems to be the most appropriate verb since these bracelets and necklaces are all about the WOOF!

The necklace shown above is eye catching in turquoise, especially the big fat three dimensional foil lined glass heart pendant.

This beauty is a gorgeous combination of turquoise and blue lampwork beads and crystals.  Yummy!  Check out that cute paw print lobster claw clasp.  The I heart my dog charm has a paw print on the other side.

Personally, I love the pink roses on the handmade lampwork beads of this bracelet.  Rose pink crystals, peridot jade, and those pretty glass beads make this one a winner.

Then again, I love the earthy colors in this vintage style WOOF dog bone bracelet.  Such pretty shades of caramel and tan coordinate so well with the very cool floral vintage brass class and cute dog bone charm.

Dog gone it! It's hard to pick a favorite!  What I know for sure is that each is one of a kind and these are just a few of the WOOF dog bone jewelry pieces available at For Love of a Dog.

And...  all of my WOOF dog bone jewelry is on sale!  Yes, that's right.  WOOF dog bone bracelets, necklace, earrings and pendants.  Hurry for best selection!

Adopt Terry a #Shepherd #Collie Mix Dog @WaysideWaifs in #KCMO

This beautiful boy is Terry.  He's a three year old Shepherd / Collie mixed breed dog. He's a young fellow with lots of energy, so he'd love an active best friend.

Here's Terry's adoption message:

Hi, I'm Terry! My last owner had to move and couldn't take me along so I was brought here to Wayside. It's okay though! I'm getting the second chance at life that I deserve and I couldn't be happier! Even though being a Waif is awesome, I'm ready to find my fur-ever home. Could that be with you?

I'm a big, handsome guy as you can see in my photos. I'm looking for a home without any other furry friends because it can be a little too overwhelming for me. I'm a very smart boy! I know commands like "sit", "come", and "shake" and I'm even house-trained! I'm eager to learn even more from you, especially if you motivate me with toys or praise.

I love to explore the outdoors and walk on my leash. I'm really energetic so I'll need to be able to get plenty of physical exercise. I also need to meet all new family members before going home to give me some time to feel more comfortable. If you're family is looking for a guy like me, come meet me at Wayside Waifs soon! Tail Wags! Terry

Labor Day Working Dogs Tribute | Dog Song Saturday

We're celebrating Labor Day today on Dog Song Saturday at Talking Dogs.

Americans have recognized the first Monday in September as Labor Day since 1882.  Labor Day was established to honor the American labor movement and we celebrate it to honor the contributions that workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of their country.

While all of us here at Talking Dogs and For Love of a Dog wish to recognize America's human workers, we can help but feel canine workers should be included in the celebration, too.

Dogs perform many tasks and serve in many different roles as working dogs: service and assistance dogs, therapy dogs, search and rescue dogs, herding and hunting dogs, war dogs or K9 Corps members, police and tracking dogs, and so much more.

So, today we bring you a barking good video about working dogs that was created by attendees of the 2010 Penn Vet Working Dog Conference.  The soundtrack to this Tribute to Working Dogs, is a great original dog song: Little Dog's Day by Glenn Jones.

Sit. Stay. Relax and enjoy this Tribute to Working Dogs and have a pawsome Labor Day holiday!  Be sure to fetch us every Saturday for a new dog song music video. In fact, check out our Dog Song Saturday music collection. You'll be surprised how many we've found.

Celebrating National Dog Day | Wordless Wednesday

Doggie ice cream cones happen so rarely at our house, its safe to say this was our dogs' favorite part of National Dog Day!
Even though they're itty bitty cones, Rudy is excited!

Jeffie just has to take a sniff to make sure its safe.  You never know, we could be trying to pawn off some fruit or veggies on him.

Rosie doesn't hesitate.  Ice cream!
