Adopt Dickens a Treeing Walker #Coonhound in #StLouis #Missouri

This handsome young fellow is Dickens.  He's a three year old Treeing Walker Coonhound at the Humane Society of Missouri in St. Louis.

Dickens is a favorite of animal shelter staff and volunteers and they report he's a happy go lucky guy who wants someone to play with.  He loves toys!  Dickens has lots of that hound curiosity and would love someone who can take him  for long walks and adventures.

Dickens appears to already be housebroken.  He walks nicely on a leash and already knows sit, down and shake.

Take a look at Dickens adoption video and then contact the HSMO at 314-951-1562. Dickens animal ID number is A570170.

Adopt Hansel a #Hound #Pitbull #Puppy @WaysideWaifs in #KCMO

Though I like to think puppies and young dogs find forever homes quickly, the sad truth is that they don't always.  This fellow at Wayside Waifs animal shelter caught my eye and I couldn't resist featuring him and giving him some social media promotion.

That face! Those ears!  What a cutie patootie!

Meet Hansel.  This adorable fellow is a hound / pit bull mix.  At only 9 months he's got lots of fun, puppy energy and the perfect age for training.

Here's Hansel's adoption message:
Hi, my name is Hansel and I hope you have a trail of bread crumbs leading to your house. You see, I'm a nine-month-old boy who once was lost but now I'm found, well, at least temporarily. What I'm really searching for is my "Forever Home" and then I really will be found. I'm a sweet and cuddly, 46-pound, brown-and-tan Pit Bull Terrier mix with the sweetest face ever.
I'm still a puppy so I've got lots of energy and I love to PLAY. And like some little kids, I like to gobble my food so I could use some training to slow me down a bit at my food bowl and to curb my enthusiasm a bit when I see you want to be with me! Woo hoo-let's go! Training me should be easy because I am treat motivated but because I'm such an enthusiastic boy, I would be better with children five and older. I love being outside running and walking with you. A happy and carefree big puppy, I simply exude with enthusiasm for life.
A happy-go-lucky young man, I'm such a handsome boy with a personality plus looking for a home. I just know you're looking for me-the one and only Hansel. I must meet all new family members, including canines, before going home. That will be fun, like most everything in my life! My bags are packed. When did you say you were going to pick me up? You won't be sorry. Love, Hansel

Take a look at Hansel's adoption video

Raising Humans by Michael White | Dog Song Saturday

Kick off your weekend with Dog Song Saturday at Talking Dogs.  I should probably issue a tissue alert for today's featured dog song.

Raising Humans is an original song written and performed by Michael White.  This is a song he wrote for his own dog, Max, after he lost him to cancer.  The accompanying video is of Max.

White notes:
Max was a Basset Hound / Boxer mix and one heck of a dog.

Sit. Stay. Take a few minutes to enjoy Raising Humans.  This touching and heartfelt tribute to White's dog, Max, could very well be one to all the dogs you love and who love you, too.

Adopt Honey a German Shepherd Chow Dog @WaysideWaifs in #KCMO

This gorgeous girl is Honey.  When you watch her adoption video you'll see exactly how she got her name.  Honey is one very sweet girl.  Honey is a German Shepherd Chow Chow mix.  Our Tucker was a mix of those breeds and he, too, was one of the sweetest dogs we've every met.

Honey is almost 2 years old and a pretty big girl at 63 pounds.  She's playful, cluddly, but a bit shy.  Enrolled in Wayside Waif's Confidence College for shy and fearful dogs, she's gaining more confidence every single day.

Honey's story:
Hello, I'm Honey! I'm sweet and shy, with the most gentle brown eyes and adorable face on earth. I'm so much more than a pretty face though. I'm fun and playful and so cuddly, once I get to know you. It takes me awhile to get to that point though. I know that makes some people turn away, not sure they want to spend the extra time earning my trust. It's been sort of a long road for me, fitting in and learning what people expect. If you are a patient and kind person who wants to make all the difference in the world to a precious soul, I hope you will take the time to meet me. Once I bond with you, I will be the most wonderful companion ever.

I am an adorable and soft, 1 ½ year old, 63 pound, Shepherd/Chow Chow mix. I think I must be mostly housetrained already, because I know to go when I get outside, and I will alert you when I need to get out. It's tough keeping a routine here at the shelter though, so please be patient with me when we get home, and remember that I'm trying my very best to make you happy. I came to Wayside as a transfer from the shelter in Liberty, MO, when they didn't have space for me. I didn't really like it much here. Wayside was big and noisy with lots of strange people running around. All of this felt overwhelming and scary to me. So I let people know that I didn't want them near, by barking and even growling through my kennel door. I just didn't know what to do...didn't know who I could trust or how to communicate. They ended up enrolling me in Wayside's Confidence College, for shy and fearful dogs. That worked out really well for me, because I was able to make a few friends with the volunteers and that helped me gain the confidence I needed to continue my quest for my forever home.

I'm still learning about leashes. I flinch when you first put it on, but once on my leash, I walk like a dream. I don't pull and I easily keep up with your pace. I love leisurely walks and I also do a little running. I'm part of the Wayside Runner's Group and I go for 1 mile runs with my volunteer friends. It's fun and they say I'm a perfect running partner. I love to play with my toys and romp and run around. I'm sort of independent, so I promise not to bother you for constant attention. But when you want me by your side, just call my name and I'll be there. I love to cuddle in my kennel with the volunteers, and I'm affectionate and loving with them. I have a soft tail wag and a lovely personality, once I learn to trust you.
In my new home, I hope you will be calm and patient and positive with me, letting me go at my own pace as I learn about my new life with you. I respond very well to praise, so let me know when I'm a good girl. Your praise will help me gain confidence, while learning what you expect from me. I've been working on a few commands and I already know sit and come, but I'd love to learn more, so please teach me! I am a smart and eager to please gal, so I promise to be a star student. Since I'm shy and sometimes fearful, I'd like a home without any kids under the age of 12. I need people in my life who can take things slowly with me and not get in my space when I'm uncomfortable, so kids just won't work with me. If you have another dog, I'd love to meet them to see how we might do together. In general, I do best with other dogs who are my size or smaller.

I can't wait to get to know you! I will be a loyal, devoted friend to you for the rest of my life. I just need you to give me a chance. No one has done that for me before. I'm a simple and sweet dog who won't ask for much. Really, all I need is you.
Love, Honey

Got My Self a Dog - Dog Park Derelicts | Dog Song Saturday

It's Saturday, so time for another dog song at Talking Dogs.  Today we have a music video featuring the theme song from Dog Park Derelicts:  Got My Self a Dog.

Dog Park Derelicts is a story about Charlie and his coffee drinking Golden Retriever dog, Babe.  Got My Self a Dog sounds a bit like the intro to that hit show The Sopranos.  Seems fitting since Charlie is known as the Godfather of the donut shop.  Sound interesting? You can watch episodes of Dog Park Derelicts on YouTube.

Employee Appreciation Day at For Love of a Dog Jewelry and Talking Dog Blog

Though I appreciated my canine assistants every day, today is Employee Appreciation DayWithout them there would be no For Love of a Dog Jewelry or Talking Dogs blog.

Jeffie takes his duties as Head of Security, very seriously.  Just ask the UPS and FedEx guys!  In addition, he's my right hand man.  Whenever he senses I'm upset, you'll find him by my side with a paw on my leg to comfort me and remind me what's really important in life.

As I box and wrap jewelry purchases for shipping, Jeffie keeps an eye on the yard from the front porch of my jewelry studio.  My Head of Shipping, Rudy, is right there with me making sure the ribbons are tied, the shipping labels affixed and there's a little dog hair included in each package.  He also loves to ride along for any trip to the Post Office.

Though the image above says Rosie is still an Apprentice, she's really a Jill of all trades.  Security may not be her favorite duty, but she likes to help with shipping and often provides support and inspiration for new dog jewelry.

No Employee Appreciation Day would be complete without honoring Tucker and Lucy B.  Though gone from this earth, they still are very much in my heart.

Tucker was the original blogger here at Talking Dogs blog, in addition to his security duties.

Without Lucy B there likely would never have been any For Love of a Dog Jewelry.  Not only the dog in my business logo, she was, and continues to be, my inspiration and my heart dog .
