Adopt Lyla a #CatahoulaLeopardDog mix dog @WaysideWaifs in #KCMO

This gorgeous girl is Lyla.  She's a 5 year old Catahoula Leopard Dog mix.  Lyla is looking for a forever home where she can be the only dog.   She's love a simply and laidback life with a consistent routine.

Hi there! I'm Lyla. I'm a sweet, somewhat shy, simple sort of dog who just wants a quiet and calm home where I can enjoy life with my family. That's it. I'm well behaved, easygoing, sweet natured, and sort of independent. I won't ask for much, and I'll try my best to follow all of your rules. It makes me sad that I'm homeless yet again, but I understand. I'll get through this and my life will be better than ever!

I'm a stunning, 56 pound, already housebroken and crate trained, Catahoula Leopard Dog mix. Have you heard of my breed? We're unique and special, frequently with one blue eye and one brown eye, which I have and I like to show off. I'm also true to my breed in that I'm loyal, protective, and athletic. I've had sort of a rough go of it though. I found myself homeless a couple years back, living at the shelter in Clinton, MO. I was transferred to Wayside, where I was adopted by a nice family. Things didn't work out for me there though. My family loved me very much and had lots of great things to say about me. But I liked to pick fights with my dog brother over all sorts of silly things. My dad was afraid that the 4 year old little girl who lived with us would get caught in the middle of things, so he decided that I would be better off with a new family. I didn't mean to cause any trouble, but I'm grateful that I'm back at Wayside, so that I can find you. And now we know that I'm looking for a home where I can be the only animal. No other dogs or cats for me, please.
I'm a quiet and super sweet dog who doesn't really like to be the center of attention. Oh, with my family and close friends, I bond deeply and am very affectionate. But I'm shy and reserved around strangers. I'm looking for a new home with a quiet and calm energy, so that I can just relax and be myself. I'm happy at home and I don't need lots of adventure in my life to keep things exciting. A nice night curled up next to you on the couch is all the excitement I need. I do enjoy going for a walk or run and I'll be a great exercise partner for you. I do very well on my leash. And while I don't particularly like other dogs, I'm not reactive at all when I see them during walks, as long as they keep their distance. I'm not the sort of dog who will enjoy trips to the dog park though. Outdoor play in my own backyard is fine with me!

I'm a smart gal and I've already had lots of training, so I can't wait to show you everything I know. I love treats and toys and it makes me so happy when you praise me, so I'm an easy dog to train. Please just be patient with me as I get acclimated to my new home, and remember that I'll pick up on things quickly. If you give me praise when I'm a good girl, I will quickly learn what you expect and will be sure to repeat my good behavior. Knowing I am making you happy will build my confidence, too. I'd like to meet the whole family before we all go home together. I lived with a 4 year old, but I might be happiest in a home with older kids, since I can be shy and I like people in my space on my own terms. And again, I need a home without any other animals.

I long for a home and a family to belong to and hang out with. I'd love a simple and laidback life with a consistent routine. And I will make a wonderful, loyal companion for you! That's my purpose in life...to be your dog and to make your life happier, just by having me in it. I will be so good at that! Please come out to meet me and give me the chance to shine!
Love, Lyla

Adopt Marigold a Young #Pointer #Dog Mix @WaysideWaifs in #KCMO #TuesdayTails

Meet Marigold!  This beautiful girl is a young Pointer mix.  At 1 1/2 years old, Marigold has a lot of energy and would love to have a person who would explore the world with her.

Here's Marigold's adoption message:
Hey there, I'm Marigold! I'm an adorable, black and white, Pointer mix weighing about 45 pounds. I was found scared and alone as a stray then brought here to Wayside where I was welcomed with open, loving arms. I love being a Waif but I'm so excited to meet my peeps and get to my fur-ever home. I'll do grrr-eat in a home with children or other furry friends but I'd like to meet them before heading home to get an idea of how I might do.
I have a lot of energy so I'll thrive in an active household. I love to get out and explore the world on walks and the peeps here say I do pretty well on my leash, sticking right by your side instead of pulling ahead. I'm a smart girl and I'm eager to learn all the new things you have to teach me. I already know the command sit and I know with some practice and extra motivation from praise or yummy treats I'll be able to add so much more to that list. I'm a sweet girl who's ready to give all of my love to my perfect match. If you think that could be you come by soon to meet me!

Adopt Rocko a Brindle #Pitbull #Dog @WaysideWaifs in #KCMO

This beautiful brindle boy is Rocko.  He's a 5 year old Pit Bull mix dog who's hoping to find a home without cats.

Rocko likes walks and playing outside, but really loves just snuggling.  Here's his adoption message:
Hi, I'm Rocko! I'm a sweet, Terrier/Pit Bull mix with unique brindle fur, weighing about 45 pounds. I was adopted then returned because I didn't like living with my feline friend. I was pretty bummed but I know that here I have the best chance at finding a home that's truly a perfect match for me. I'll do grrr-eat with children and other canine companions and would like to meet my new family before heading home to get an idea of how I might do.

I have a pretty moderate energy level so if you're the type who likes to kick back and relax then we'll get along just fine. Of course every pup needs exercise to stay happy and healthy so when we're getting active let's explore the world on walks or romp around the backyard for a game of fetch!

I'm a super smart guy who's eager to learn all the new things you have to teach me. I already know the commands sit and down and I know with some practice and extra motivation from praise or yummy treats I'll be able to add to that list in no time. I'm a sweet boy who wants to give my peeps all the love and affection I have to offer. If you think those peeps might be you, come by and say hi soon!

Tail wags, Rocko

Adopt Aggie #Rottweiler #Lab Mix #ShelterDog @WaysideWaifs in #KCMO

This big beautiful girl is Aggie.  She's a 2 1/2 year old Rottweiler Labrador Retriever mix that is living the shelter life these days.

Aggie is house broken and know basic obedience.  If you're looking for a big bundle of love, read Aggie's adoption message.
Hey, I'm Aggie. I'm an adorable girl transferred from another shelter when they ran out of space for me. I've been shown so much love as a Waif and I have so much hope that my family will be here soon to take me home. I'm a big gal weighing about 74 pounds, with a big heart to match!
I'm a strong girl who will do best with someone who is familiar with my breed. I'm a confident and pretty independent type of gal. I'll definitely need to stay active to be happy and healthy! I'll do best with older children due to my size and I prefer no cats or small, furry animals. I'll benefit from basic obedience training in my new home but I'll learn the ropes in no time.
I'm a smart girl and already know the commands sit, down, and come. I'm eager to learn even more from you. I'll be extra motivated with praise, fun toys, or yummy treats! Oh, and did I mention I'm house trained?? I'm ready to show my pleasing, affectionate side to my perfect match. I'm a lovable girl who will make the best companion. Hope to see you soon at Wayside Waifs!

Adopt Liberty a 10 Year Old #Pitbull #SeniorDog @WaysideWaifs

This adorable girl is Liberty.  She's a 10 year old senior Pit Bull mix dog who was dumped at Wayside Waifs animal shelter in Kansas City, Missouri.  Luckily for her, Wayside is Kansas City's largest no-kill shelter and the folks there are taking good care of her.

If you're looking for a walking companion who loves to snuggle, then Liberty is your girl!  Here's her adoption message:
Hello there, I'm Liberty! I'm the sweetest gal you'll ever meet. I'm friendly and social, in a gentle sort of way, and I love to be by your side. I will make a wonderful companion for you!

I'm not one to complain or feel sorry for myself. And I certainly don't want to make you sad! But things have been sort of rough for me lately. It's no secret that, at 10 years old, I'm classified as a senior. And I found myself not only homeless, but abandoned and dumped at Wayside. It all seemed so unfair. But I smiled and I wagged my tail and I was so sweet to the Wayside staff that they couldn't help but fall in love with me. And I know some people will pass me by because of my age, but I want you to remember that age is just a number. None of us knows how long we have left on this earth, so the key is to appreciate and celebrate each and every day. I'm an expert at that!
When I got here, the doc noticed that overall I looked really healthy, but my mouth and teeth were in awful shape! So I had a doggie dental performed on me the other day. It wasn't fun, but I loved that someone cared enough about me to help me be healthier in the long run. So that's done and now I can move on and concentrate on finding you! I have such a delightful personality! I make people smile. I love to get out of my kennel and go for a leisurely walk whenever possible. I look a little like a pot-bellied pig, ambling down the sidewalk with a smile on my face. I love the fresh air and the attention I get from my volunteer friends. And I love to sit by your side, soaking up all the attention you give me.

I long to make you happy, so I hope you will praise me when I am a good girl. If you will be patient and gentle with me and offer me plenty of positive reinforcement, I will learn what you expect from me in no time at all. I can't wait to get started learning my new routine with you. I hope I can meet the whole family before we all go home together. I'd like a home as your only animal, please, because I don't really care for other dogs. I just don't want to compete with them for your attention, but I promise I'll show you so much doggie love that I will be enough for you!

I'm so glad you decided to take the time to read about me! It makes me feel special and peaceful when I know people care. I'm just a simple, sweet dog looking for a new home. That's all. I hope I can spend the rest of my life with you!
Love, Liberty

Say Yes to These Ears and Adopt Starr a #Pitbull Mix Dog @WaysideWaifs in #KCMO

She had me at the ears.  Seriously. I am seriously in love with this girl's ears!  Starr is a pitbull mixed breed dog who is looking for a forever home.

Starr's 4 years old and about 50 pounds of love.  She is a bit picky about who she spends time with (I can't blame her since I am, too), so she's really like to be the solo queen of her new castle.  She's treat motivated and eager to learn some basic obedience.

Here's Starr's adoption message:
Hey there, I'm Starr! I'm a 52-pound girl with so much love to give. I was transferred here when my last shelter ran out of space for me. I don't mind because I know I've been given the best chance at finding my new family! I've had so much fun as a Waif and I know I'll have even more fun in my fur-ever home. I'm recommended to go to a home with children over the age of 5 because I can be picky about who I feel comfortable around. For the same reason I may do best as the queen of my castle instead of sharing a home with other furry friends.

Exercise is important in any dog's life so I'd love a home where I'll get plenty of it. I like to explore the world on walks but all the new sites and sounds easily excite me so I'll benefit from using a harness to teach me not to pull ahead. I'll need some basic obedience in my new home but I'm a smart girl and I know I'll catch on quick! I already know the command "come" and I'm eager to learn even more from you, especially when yummy treats are involved. Whether we're getting active or lounging around the house I'll be happy as long as I'm by your side. If you're looking for a girl like me to give lots of love and affection, please come meet me soon at Wayside Waifs! Tail wags for stopping by.

Adopt Rascal a #Terrier Dog @WaysideWaifs in #KCMO | Tuesdays Tails

This handsome fellow is Rascal.  He's a rat terrier mix who is about 7 years old.  Shelter staff and volunteers report he's a friendly, happy guy who needs a little training.  Rascal is food motivated and he loves chasing tennis balls.

Here's Rascal's adoption message:
Hi Everybody...My name is Rascal, and I'm a ball of energy! I'm almost 7 years old, but you'd never guess it. I'm a rat terrier mix and a good looking little boy, if I do say so myself! I think my coal black ears, little white nub of a tail, and my happy personality, will charm you when you meet me. I sure hope that will be soon. And I hope you decide that I'm your kind of guy.

I'm looking for a family that will give me the training and consistency that I need. You see, I haven't had a lot of experience learning basic obedience skills like "come, sit, stay" etc. I'm motivated by treats and toys, so those things should get my attention and help me learn. I just love to play and run, especially when tennis balls are involved! Because I'm so rambunctious, I'll do best in a home without children under the age of 5.

I'm curious and enthusiastic about all kinds of things, especially outside, so I'll need to learn good leash manners too. A harness would be best to help me control my impulses and keep me from pulling. (There's something about squirrels that just makes me want to run and chase!) And I would really appreciate extra exercise and games where all my energy would be put to good use. Agility training might be something that would be a lot of fun for me...and for you too!

Speaking of treats, I'm quite good at taking them very gently from your hand. When it comes to eating my meals though, I'm pretty serious. I'd prefer a quiet place to eat, where I'm away from people and other dogs.
The nice people here at Wayside Waifs think I'm close to being crate trained. As for house training, I'll need improvement. They would love to talk to you about good ways for me to accomplish that, and I'm hoping you are the patient person that will help me learn.

Won't you please come out and meet me soon? I'm so anxious to find a forever home, with a family that will help me become the best dog and companion I can be. Will it be you? When you come, please bring all members of the family, including furry ones, just to make sure we all get along. I'm hoping we'll be the perfect match!

Wiggles and wags, Rascal (the little dog with the big personality)

I'm a good-looking fellow with the sweetest face, as you can see in my photos, weighing in at about 44 pounds. I'll do best in a home with children over the age of 5 and I'll need to meet all my new family members before I go home.

We are participating in the Tuesday's Tails blog hop hosted by Dogs N Pawz and Talking Dogs.  This is the blog hop that features shelter pets.  Find a pet at your local animal shelter or rescue and join us!  Please help spread the word about these beautiful animals via social media and let's find them forever homes!

Adopt Hanson #CataholulaLeopardDog @WaysideWaifs in #KCMO | Tuesday Tails

This beautiful boy is Hanson.  He's a 4 year old Mississippi born Catahoula Leopard Dog mix.  Hanson really is a striking dog with one blue eye, one brown eye and a beautiful black, gray and white fur coat.

Here's Hanson's adoption message:
Hi there, my name is Hanson....that's spelled H-A-N-D-S-O-M-E. Just a little joke, but I am a very good looking guy. I'm a 4 year old Catahoula Leopard Dog mix, and my coat is just the right combination of black, gray and white. You probably can't see it in my photo, but my eyes are unique. One is brown and one is a striking blue, which is handy when I want to flirt!

I was transferred to Wayside from the Humane Society of South Mississippi. I'm a little underweight right now and that's probably because of being nervous and not having a loving family to make sure I stayed healthy. The good people here are feeding me all kinds of yummy things now, and making sure I'm as healthy as can be. I'm sure I'll get back in shape quickly. I feel so much better now that I'm here, and sure hope I'll find my forever home soon.
I hope I can convince you to come and meet me, because I know you'd be impressed with how loveable and smart I am. I will sit on command, and I take treats very nicely. I am well-mannered (except around squirrels...they drive me crazy) and just SO interested in all there is to see on my walks. I mean, I want to explore and sniff just about everything! I need to make up for all those days when I didn't have a loving human to show me around. I'll do best if walked with a harness since all my enthusiasm makes me pull on the leash a bit.

In my new home (which I hope is yours!) I would love to learn more basic commands and doggie obedience skills. I'm motivated by praise and food, so I should learn quickly. I would love to play games with you that would stimulate me mentally and entertain both of us!
Bragging is really not my thing, but some people here say I'm "beautiful" and my eyes are "enchanting!" I think you should come out and see for yourself...that would really make me happy. When you come to meet me, please bring all the members of your family and any furry members too...just to make sure we all get along. I can't wait to meet you and I know you won't be disappointed. Just ask for me, Handsome Hanson! And please come soon!

Kisses and wags,  Hanson
