Adopt Liberty a 10 Year Old #Pitbull #SeniorDog @WaysideWaifs

This adorable girl is Liberty.  She's a 10 year old senior Pit Bull mix dog who was dumped at Wayside Waifs animal shelter in Kansas City, Missouri.  Luckily for her, Wayside is Kansas City's largest no-kill shelter and the folks there are taking good care of her.

If you're looking for a walking companion who loves to snuggle, then Liberty is your girl!  Here's her adoption message:
Hello there, I'm Liberty! I'm the sweetest gal you'll ever meet. I'm friendly and social, in a gentle sort of way, and I love to be by your side. I will make a wonderful companion for you!

I'm not one to complain or feel sorry for myself. And I certainly don't want to make you sad! But things have been sort of rough for me lately. It's no secret that, at 10 years old, I'm classified as a senior. And I found myself not only homeless, but abandoned and dumped at Wayside. It all seemed so unfair. But I smiled and I wagged my tail and I was so sweet to the Wayside staff that they couldn't help but fall in love with me. And I know some people will pass me by because of my age, but I want you to remember that age is just a number. None of us knows how long we have left on this earth, so the key is to appreciate and celebrate each and every day. I'm an expert at that!
When I got here, the doc noticed that overall I looked really healthy, but my mouth and teeth were in awful shape! So I had a doggie dental performed on me the other day. It wasn't fun, but I loved that someone cared enough about me to help me be healthier in the long run. So that's done and now I can move on and concentrate on finding you! I have such a delightful personality! I make people smile. I love to get out of my kennel and go for a leisurely walk whenever possible. I look a little like a pot-bellied pig, ambling down the sidewalk with a smile on my face. I love the fresh air and the attention I get from my volunteer friends. And I love to sit by your side, soaking up all the attention you give me.

I long to make you happy, so I hope you will praise me when I am a good girl. If you will be patient and gentle with me and offer me plenty of positive reinforcement, I will learn what you expect from me in no time at all. I can't wait to get started learning my new routine with you. I hope I can meet the whole family before we all go home together. I'd like a home as your only animal, please, because I don't really care for other dogs. I just don't want to compete with them for your attention, but I promise I'll show you so much doggie love that I will be enough for you!

I'm so glad you decided to take the time to read about me! It makes me feel special and peaceful when I know people care. I'm just a simple, sweet dog looking for a new home. That's all. I hope I can spend the rest of my life with you!
Love, Liberty

Adopt Maryn a Young #Pitbull Mix #Dog @WaysideWaifs in #KCMO

This beautiful girl is Maryn.  She's a 2 year old Pitbull mix with some gorgeous fur!  Shelter staff and volunteers report that Maryn has lots of energy and loves getting outside to walk and romp.

Here's her adoption message:
Hey, I'm Maryn! I'm a 42-pound Terrier, Pit Bull mix who's looking for her fur-ever home. I was transferred to Wayside from my last shelter that ran out of space for me. I don't mind though! I'm getting all the love and care I need and I know now I have the best chance at finding my peeps!
I start off a little timid with strangers but give me time and I'll show you my sweet, outgoing side. I'll do fine in a home with children or other furry friends but would like to meet them first before heading home to get an idea of how I might do. I have a lot of energy so staying active is important! I love getting out and taking walks or just romping around the yard.
I'm also super smart! I already know commands like down and I'm eager to learn even more. With some basic obedience training and some praise or yummy treats for extra motivation, I know I can be the perfect companion you've always dreamed of! I'd love to meet you soon so come on out to Wayside Waifs and say hi! Tail wags! Maryn

For more information about Maryn,

Adopt Jackson a #Beagle #Hound #Dog @WaysideWaifs in #KCMO

Meet Jackson.  He's a 6 year old hound / Beagle mixed breed dog currently available for adoption from Wayside Waifs animal shelter in Kansas City, MO.

According to shelter staff and volunteers, Jackson is a goofy, silly, loving boy.  He loves to play fetch and go for walks.  Currently he's learning some agility and seems to be a natural.  Jackson is already housebroken, and knows a wide range of commands.

Here's Jackson's adoption message:
Hello there! I'm adorable Jackson here, just looking for a brand new home to call my own. It's been sort of a rough ride for me, but I refuse to let that get me down. I am a sweet, smart, playful, and fun dog with a delightful personality to match. I can't let the fact that I'm homeless once again make me lose faith that my forever family is out there. Perhaps you are looking for me right now! Well, I'm at Wayside, waiting for you. If you have the time and patience and dedication to work with me and help me be the best dog I can be, I will be the most wonderful companion ever.

I am an almost 6 year old, perfect medium size, already housetrained, Hound/Beagle mix. I'm in the prime of my life. And I am such a special boy, with gentle eyes and the softest hound ears you've ever seen. I originally came to Wayside a few years ago, as a transfer from the shelter in Springfield, MO. I got adopted, but things didn't end up working out for me there. I can't remember what exactly happened, but my owner gave me away to her neighbor and somehow I ended up as a stray, picked up by Kansas City Animal Control. Lucky for me, the people at Wayside welcomed me back with open arms. That was 2 years ago, but I still remember it like it was yesterday, because life as a stray was lonely and sad. Eventually, I found another new home and I'd been with my most recent family for the past 2 years, before getting returned to Wayside yet again. So now I wait and hope my true forever family finds me. Maybe today will be my day. I hope so.

I'm such a lover! I'm affectionate and friendly, goofy and silly. I love to play fetch and play with my toys and go for walks and explore the world. I've even been having some fun at the agility park here at Wayside and they tell me I'm a natural. I walk very well on my leash, but I do have a hound nose, so I like to stop and smell all the great things along the way. In my new home, I'm hoping for a fenced in yard, to keep me safe and secure. And I don't really think I'd be a good apartment dog, because sometimes I'm vocal. I have so much I want to tell you, so I hope my hound voice makes you smile. I'm a smart guy and I know all sorts of commands that I can't wait to show you. The Wayside staff has been using a training method for me called Nothing In Life Is Free and I respond very well to it, so I hope to continue my training in my new home. It teaches me, in a positive way, that you are in charge and that I have to earn what I want in life. So I will sit or shake or wait patiently for a treat, for example. Your adoption counselor can give you more information on this. I'm the perfect dog to train, because not only am I smart, but I love to learn, I'm treat motivated, I love it when you praise me, and I have a soft and gentle mouth when taking treats from you.

One of the things my last family noticed about me was that I was extra protective of my stuff. And I can be very serious with my food. The staff here at Wayside has been working with me to modify my behavior and it's working! I'm learning that food is something I will always have enough of. In my new home, I will need a safe place to eat where I don't feel threatened, and please remove my bowl when I am finished eating. I'll be happiest in a home without kids under 15 and as your only dog. I have sort of a big 'bubble' around me and I don't really like it when kids or other dogs try to get in. I'm wonderful with adults though! I'm fun, happy, affectionate, and loyal as can be

I hope you're looking for a happy-go-lucky sort of dog like me to spend your life with. With a little time and dedication and training and exercise and love, I know I can be the most fantastic companion you've ever known. I know I ask for a lot, but I give a lot in return. You'll see what I mean if you just take a chance on me and come out to Wayside to meet me. I'm sort of lonely here and I need a family to call my own. I need people to love and care for who will do the same for me. I need to run and play and go for walks and watch TV with you. I need to belong. I promise to be a loyal and friendly companion and I promise to make you smile every single day. That will be my job. Life will be good. I can't wait!
Love, Jackson

Adopt Heidi a #Doberman #Greyhound Mix Dog @WaysideWaifs in KCMO

This beautiful girl is Heidi.  She's a young 3 year old Doberman / Greyhound mixed breed dog.  Originally from Louisiana and now at Wayside Waifs animal shelter in Kansas City, she's got quite a story to tell!

I am originally from Louisiana and it has been a wild ride since my days in the south! An older gentleman found me wondering along the swampy roads of Slidell when he brought me home with him and gave me love and shelter. He could no longer care for me though so he took me to a wonderful family to help me find a home. They took me in and loved me as their own and only had great things to say about me! However, they didn't have a fenced yard and they worried that I would get hurt when I ran around their property! They were very upset to give me away but they knew they wanted to give me my best chance at finding my family. They had known about Wayside Waifs and made the drive up here to the Midwest.

When I first got to Wayside I was a little confused. I'd never been in an environment like this before and I was intimidated by all the hustle and bustle of shelter life. They decided I needed some help adjusting so they put me on a special team called Green Team. It's a group of trained volunteers that work with shy and fearful dogs. It didn't take me long to warm up and soak up all the love that has been given to me here. I soon began to be my old self again and love life! I'd never seen snow before but I love to prance and frolic in this white blanket they call snow!
I'd love to tell you a little more about myself to see if we would be the right fit together! I am pretty under socialized with other dogs and I don't really know how to be around them. The staff here thinks it would be best for me to the only pet in your home. I hope that doesn't worry you because I have a big personality and a lot of love to give so I will definitely do my best to make you happy! I already know several tricks too! I know sit, shake, down and speak. I am one smart girl! I am also completely house trained per my previous owners but I may need a refresher course in my new home until I get into a routine. I am still a young girl so I will need plenty of exercise! Do you like to go on runs? I love to run and would make a pretty great running buddy!! Walks? I love to go exploring with you and seeing this new place they call the Midwest!

I've seen a lot of this country so far in my short 2 years but what I want more than anything is a family of my own! If you are looking for a sweet, funny and loyal girl then look no further! Come on out to Wayside Waifs today and ask to meet Heidi. I'll be waiting with a smile on my face just for you!

Hugs and Kisses, Heidi

Adopt Wonton a Young #PitBull Dog in Missouri

Wonton is a 1 year old brown brindle Pit Bull Terrier mixed breed dog.  According to the staff and volunteers at the Humane Society of Missouri St. Louis City animal shelter, Wonton can be a little shy around new people and situations.  Consequently, she's love a quiet home, somewhere she can feel safe and secure.  She does warm up to folks and then she's oh, so sweet and affectionate.  Wonton loves to be petted and will roll over for some nice belly rubs.

While Wonton has been at the shelter, she's learned to walk nicely on a leash.  She loves going outside.  Wonton is alert and attentive.

Wonton is two of the HSMO special programs.  In their Shelter to Home program, she's learning basic commands.  So far she has mastered sit, down and wait.  She is also in their Dog to Dog Socialization where she's learning how to play with other dogs.  She's doing great with that!

Check out Wonton playing with a shelter friend, then give the HSMO a call at 314-951-1562.  Wonton's animal ID number is A575181

Adopt Orlando a Senior German Shepherd Dog in Kansas City

This beautiful boy is Orlando.  He's German Shepherd Dog mix who was picked up as a stray and taken to Wayside Waifs in Kansas City MO.  At about 9 years old, Orlando is a senior dog.

Here's his adoption message:
Hello! My name is Orlando. I'm a handsome 9-year-old German Shepherd/mix. I originally came into Wayside as a stray. It was hard at my age being on the streets. I don't really know what happened but I'm sure glad I am here where it's safe. Wayside is everything I could have dreamed about! A roof over my head, warm blankets, lots of walks and enrichment, I feel like I've hit the lottery! Except there's still one thing missing. You. My fur-ever family. A home I can call my own. I hope that in reading this you will see that I might be the perfect fit for you!

Don't be fooled by my age! I'm still quite the whippersnapper, if I do say myself! I have a lot of energy and love still in me that I can't wait to share with my new family! I have a rough go of things lately but that hasn't dampened my spirit. When I first got here I caught a pretty bad cold that put me out of commission for awhile. The amazing vet staff worked tirelessly to help me feel better and get me back to my silly and sweet self. Everyone says that now that I am healthy again it's only a matter of time before my new family comes for me!

I will need continued work on my training but I am a smart and eager to please boy so that will go a long way! Daily mental and physical stimulation will help me become a happier boy! I may be older but I still love to get out and run and play! There is nothing I would like more than to go on adventures with you. Trips around the neighborhood or trips to the park would be so much fun! I am guaranteed to keep you grinning from ear to ear with a matching smile on my face. Some of the volunteers have noticed I try really hard to keep my kennel clean so I may be kennel trained! Consistency, praise and a routine will continue to help me on my way! I love treats too, so that will help in learning what is expected of me!

If you are looking for a silly, loyal and sweet boy than look no further! Come on out to Wayside Waifs and ask to meet Orlando. I have been waiting for this day for so long and I can't wait to walk away from the shelter and into our new lives together!

All my love,
Orlando

My name is Bandit and I am a beautiful 6-year-old Shetland Sheepdog/Smooth Collie/Mix and I am ready for my new Forever Home. I know you probably think six is old but I am far from old; I am "young at heart", have already made it through that puppy stage so I would say I am just about the right age. After all, older is better, don't you know?

I was found as a stray and my owner was not able to take me back for personal reasons. I wish I could have stayed but sometimes people cannot take their dogs with them when their lifestyles change. That is what happened to me. I was almost adopted but that fell through so fortunately I ended up at Wayside Waifs. How lucky for me because I know that I am safe while I search for my new home and family.

When I first came to Wayside I was scared and very nervous but it did not take me long to steal the hearts of the Staff and Volunteers and now I am brave and happily ready for my new digs. Although I am over most of my fearfulness, I will still not be able to go to a home with kids under the age of 12-years-old. I know I would never purposely hurt anyone but I still am a little timid with strangers, so I ask that you please be patient with me.

My Handlers know that I am such an awesome guy and that I will make a great addition to almost any home. I would prefer a quieter environment and even though I get along with some dogs it might be best that I go to a home as an only dog. I can be picky sometimes about my canine friends.

I do great on my leash and I love to go for walks. I will stop sometimes so that you can give me a hug. I am housebroken so that will make things much easier for the both of us.

I hope that I can find a family that will be patient with me as I learn the routine of my new home and is willing to help me with positive reinforcement training and socialization. I will need time to adjust to my new surroundings before I am introduced to others outside the home; I know you understand. I think I will bond well with my new family members; so if you are looking for a best friend, here I am.

Well that just about covers everything; I hope you like what you read about me, and that you will come to Wayside to visit me. Please stop by the Adoption Desk and ask to see Bandit. I promise you will not be sorry. Oh and I forgot to mention, they call me Bandit because I will steal your heart.

Hugs and Kisses,
Love Bandit

Adopt Antoinette a Pit Bull Terrier at Stray Rescue | Tuesdays Tails

This beautiful girl is Antoinette.  She is a two year old Pit Bull Terrier mix that loves to snuggle and give kisses.  According to her foster mom, Antoinette is very well behaved in the house and in the car.

Before Antoinette was rescued, she had a very hard life on the streets.  She came into the Stray Rescue St Louis animal shelter with eye infections and missing some hair.  All that is behind her now.  Good vet care healed her wounds and Antoinette has discovered that life with caring people can be wonderful.

At two years old, Antoinette is the perfect age to adapt to a new home.  She's mature enough to learn and young enough to love to play.

Have a look at her video and see what a cutie she is!  Contact Stray Rescue St Louis at 314-771-6121 for more information about Antoinette.  Note: Antoinette is currently in a foster home.

Founded by Randy Grim, Stray Rescue of St Louis sole purpose is to rescue stray animals in need of medical attention, restore them to health, and place them in loving adoptive homes.  Virtually all of the pets they save have been abused and neglected.  Stray Rescue is a no-kill organization that believes rescued animals often make the best pets.  Given a second lease on life and in return for a little affection and attention, these remarkable animals reward their new owners with a love and loyalty unmatched anywhere.

Adopt Dickens a Treeing Walker Coonhound in Missouri | Tuesdays Tails

This handsome young fellow is Dickens.  He's a 2 year old tricolor Treeing Walker Coonhound.

Staff and Volunteers at the Humane Society of Missouri St Louis City animal shelter report that Dickens loves people.  He's still full of lots of puppy energy.  Dickens loves being outside to explore and take in all the smells.  He walks nicely on a leash and already knows how to sit.

According to Dogster:
Treeing Walker Coonhounds are high-energy, hardworking canines with an excellent sense of smell and keen intelligence.  Somehow, in spite of powerful hunting instincts, they manage to be relatively gentle and relaxed in the home.  Treeing Walker Coonhounds are very patient and playful with children and they can be quite friendly with new people.

Take a look at Dicken's adoption video and then give HSMO a call at 314-951-1562.  Dicken's animal ID number is A570170.
