#OaktownPup Parody of Uptown Funk by Bruno Mars | Dog Song Saturday

Get up and dance with Dog Song Saturday at Talking Dogs.

We think you'll have a hard time sitting still listening to this barking good parody of Bruno Mars hit Uptown Funk.

Oaktown Pup stars adoptable dogs from the East Bay SPCA in Oakland, CA and we have no doubt you'll love the music video.  The opening shot features a pit bull mix named Carla and don't blink at the :54 mark or you'll miss the sweet doxie on wheels.

Created by the East Bay SPCA in an effort to get more of their rescue dogs adopted, Oaktown Pup is compelling.  We're betting the song's refrain will be an earworm:
Cause time's right for you to adopt!
Oh! And spay or neuter your pup!

In fact, you may want the lyrics so you can sing along!
This pup, he's East Bay
Pit Bull, just wanna play
These ones, from Stockton
Them good dogs, great lap sitters.
Long coat, short coat, livin' it up in the kennel
Got leash on with tongue out
Got lick myself, so pretty

Adopt Gretel A Coonhound Dog in Virginia

Gretel is a Black and Tan Coonhound in foster care in Virginia waiting for a forever home.
Long silky soft ears, big ‘ole brown hound dog eyes, noses to the ground. We’ve all seen pictures of coonhounds as “hunting dogs” or seen them lazing around on a front porch in the south somewhere. Has it ever made you wonder what it would like to have a coonhound as a furry family member?

Coonhounds are one of the most often overlooked breeds in shelters because of the stereotypes – loud, smelly, stubborn. And unfortunately for them, whether they are picked up as strays or dumped by their owners, coonhounds often don’t make it out of the shelter alive.

In reality, coonhounds make wonderful additions to your family. They are a very social breed and interact well with other dogs (and even cats if properly introduced) and they do well with children. They can be vocal with their “hound song” when outdoors, but are typically quiet when enjoying the comforts of being indoors with their human family.

Coonhounds were bred to be hunters so they generally have fewer health issues than other breeds. The most common issue is an ear infection, which is often due to those long gorgeous ears, but it’s easily treatable. While it’s best to keep them leashed when walking due to their “wandering nature”, a coonhound can be perfectly happy as a couch potato or roaming around in a fenced backyard.

Gretel is a Black and Tan Coonhound girl waiting in Virginia for a forever home. No more than 1 year old, Gretel was picked up as a neglected and starved stray. Her sad start in life is now over thanks to the American Black and Tan Coonhound Rescue (ABTCR)

Gretel is safe and learning to love life as a young hound. She’s very food and treat motivated and loves to romp and play with her foster siblings. Her best buds in the house are another hound and a young shepherd mix.

Gretel does well in a crate as she is crated during the workday, but sleeps out at night, either in a big dog bed or with her foster parents. She is a little shy at first, but is learning to trust the humans around her. Her foster family believes that she would do well with children. She's working on house manners and has come far since she joined the foster family.

Gretel is on the petite side but has a huge heart and is so deserving of the love a forever family could give her. Check out a video of Gretel trying to decide which toy she wants to play with!

To adopt Gretel, visit the American Black and Tan Coonhound website at www.coonhoundrescue.com to fill out an application

Jayne Schlegel and Molly Smith founded American Black and Tan Coonhound Rescue in 2004. In 2012, ABTCR rehomed over 640 coonhounds and bloodhounds, many of whom would have died in shelters had they not been pulled for rescue.

ABTCR has been able to save these hounds because of an extensive network of over 70 active foster homes in 39 states across the country. And foster homes are always needed. To foster means opening up your home to a dog that would have otherwise been euthanized in a shelter. It’s a second chance for a dog that might have been treated badly, neglected, or simply unwanted.

Fostering a dog is extremely rewarding; words can't describe the feeling of watching a scared, thin dog thrive and become the beautiful companion that can be placed with a new family. The foster family also provides valuable insight into the dog's personality so that a good match can be made with a potential adopter. How many times can you say, “I saved a life today.”?

Take a few moments to watch this fostering video made by volunteers with ABTCR and if you think you’d be interested in fostering for American Black and Tan Coonhound Rescue, fill out a foster application here.

Adopt Dickens a Treeing Walker Coonhound in Missouri | Tuesdays Tails

This handsome young fellow is Dickens.  He's a 2 year old tricolor Treeing Walker Coonhound.

Staff and Volunteers at the Humane Society of Missouri St Louis City animal shelter report that Dickens loves people.  He's still full of lots of puppy energy.  Dickens loves being outside to explore and take in all the smells.  He walks nicely on a leash and already knows how to sit.

According to Dogster:
Treeing Walker Coonhounds are high-energy, hardworking canines with an excellent sense of smell and keen intelligence.  Somehow, in spite of powerful hunting instincts, they manage to be relatively gentle and relaxed in the home.  Treeing Walker Coonhounds are very patient and playful with children and they can be quite friendly with new people.

Take a look at Dicken's adoption video and then give HSMO a call at 314-951-1562.  Dicken's animal ID number is A570170.

Since 1870, the Humane Society of Missouri has been dedicated to second chances.  They provide a safe and caring haven to animals - large and small - that have been abused, neglected or abandoned.  Their mission is to end the cycle of abuse and overpopulation, assist in creating lasting relations hips between people and animals, offer world-class veterinary care, plus offer pet obedience and behavior programs.  HSMO operates three animal shelters in the St Louis, Missouri, area, plus Longmeadow Rescue Ranch in Union, Missouri, for abused and neglected horses, cows, goats, chickens and other farm animals.

Adopt Wanda a Bloodhound Dog

Wanda is looking for a forever home...  is it with you?

Wanda (formerly known as Daisy Jolene) is a gorgeous purebred Bloodhound that was picked up as a stray in Montgomery County, VA and taken to the local shelter.
How could you say no to those magnificent ears?
She was infested with fleas and a blood test revealed that she was anemic because of the infestation. After several baths and vet care, she is on the road to a speedy recovery.
A sweetheart named Wanda.
Wanda was pulled for rescue by Bandit's Place which is located in CT, but has foster homes in several states.
Wanda says:  Please help me find my perfect forever home!
Wanda had a temporary foster home in Elliston, VA so that transport could be coordinated to the rescue in CT.
Wanda just released from the animal shelter and on her way to her temporary foster home with a snazzy new collar and leash.
She is estimated to be around 2 years old, but is full of puppy love. She weighs a little over 70 lbs and is the biggest and happiest clown to have around the house. She is very food and treat motivated. She is also crate trained and house broken.
Wanda loves to play!
Wanda's dreaming of a forever home with lots of dog toys, good eats and love.
Wanda gets along very well with other dogs and is on the submissive side.
Wanda getting acquainted with some of her foster siblings.
She hasn't been tested with cats or kids, but she's so laid back that she would probably do well with children. Just be careful with the little kids because Wanda loves to play and might knock them over!

If you're interested in adopting Wanda, visit the rescue's website and fill out an online application.
Please share me so I can find my forever family!
Bandit's Place is a federally recognized 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing homeless animals and placing them in loving, forever homes. It matters not where they've come from, but it matters greatly where they go. Needy animals are pulled from pounds across a wide area from Connecticut to the southern United States' over crowded high kill shelters and, when room provides itself, from individuals needing to surrender their pets.  Follow Bandit's Place on Facebook to see more of their adoptable pets and foster opportunities.

Note:  Special thanks to Kristi Austin for providing information and so many photos of the beautiful Wanda.  Kristi and her husband, Glenn, provided temporary foster care for this lovely girl.
On Tuesday we'll be participating in the Tuesday's Tails blog hop hosted by Dogs N Pawz.  This is the blog hop that features shelter pets.  Find a pet at your local animal shelter or rescue and join us!  Please help spread the word about these beautiful animals via social media and let's find them forever homes!
