Adopt Liberty a 10 Year Old #Pitbull #SeniorDog @WaysideWaifs

This adorable girl is Liberty.  She's a 10 year old senior Pit Bull mix dog who was dumped at Wayside Waifs animal shelter in Kansas City, Missouri.  Luckily for her, Wayside is Kansas City's largest no-kill shelter and the folks there are taking good care of her.

If you're looking for a walking companion who loves to snuggle, then Liberty is your girl!  Here's her adoption message:
Hello there, I'm Liberty! I'm the sweetest gal you'll ever meet. I'm friendly and social, in a gentle sort of way, and I love to be by your side. I will make a wonderful companion for you!

I'm not one to complain or feel sorry for myself. And I certainly don't want to make you sad! But things have been sort of rough for me lately. It's no secret that, at 10 years old, I'm classified as a senior. And I found myself not only homeless, but abandoned and dumped at Wayside. It all seemed so unfair. But I smiled and I wagged my tail and I was so sweet to the Wayside staff that they couldn't help but fall in love with me. And I know some people will pass me by because of my age, but I want you to remember that age is just a number. None of us knows how long we have left on this earth, so the key is to appreciate and celebrate each and every day. I'm an expert at that!
When I got here, the doc noticed that overall I looked really healthy, but my mouth and teeth were in awful shape! So I had a doggie dental performed on me the other day. It wasn't fun, but I loved that someone cared enough about me to help me be healthier in the long run. So that's done and now I can move on and concentrate on finding you! I have such a delightful personality! I make people smile. I love to get out of my kennel and go for a leisurely walk whenever possible. I look a little like a pot-bellied pig, ambling down the sidewalk with a smile on my face. I love the fresh air and the attention I get from my volunteer friends. And I love to sit by your side, soaking up all the attention you give me.

I long to make you happy, so I hope you will praise me when I am a good girl. If you will be patient and gentle with me and offer me plenty of positive reinforcement, I will learn what you expect from me in no time at all. I can't wait to get started learning my new routine with you. I hope I can meet the whole family before we all go home together. I'd like a home as your only animal, please, because I don't really care for other dogs. I just don't want to compete with them for your attention, but I promise I'll show you so much doggie love that I will be enough for you!

I'm so glad you decided to take the time to read about me! It makes me feel special and peaceful when I know people care. I'm just a simple, sweet dog looking for a new home. That's all. I hope I can spend the rest of my life with you!
Love, Liberty

I've Loved You All Over the World by Willie Nelson | Dog Song Saturday

We usually stick to truly original songs about dogs here at Dog Song Saturday at Talking Dogs.  However, sometimes we run across a music video that we simply can't resist sharing.  Today is one of those days.

Listen to the lyrics of I've Loved You All Over the World by Willie Nelson and we're pretty sure you'll agree it is pretty perfect for this video celebrating a 14 year old dog's birthday.  The dog and his bestie are fulfilling a bucket list during a weekend trip of a lifetime.

The bond between a man and his dog is as strong as the Subaru Impreza according to the video. In his furry best friend's golden years, the pair finish the dog's bucket list: filling shopping carts up with tennis balls, 14 and 3/4 birthday cakes, a brand new leather shoe to chew on and fixing mends with old girlfriends and more.

Yes, it is a commerical for Subaru - the folks who've brought us some barking good dog / auto advertisements over the years.  No, we don't drive a Subaru and this is not a sponsored blog post, nor are we urging you to shop Subaru.  We just happen to love this company's ads.

Sit. Stay. Relax and enjoy Dream Weekend and the I've Loved You All Over the World by Willie Nelson soundtrack.  Fetch more dog songs and music videos at Talking Dogs.  You'll be surprised at how many we've collected over the years.

Adopt Sarah a #LabradorRetriever #SeniorDog @WaysideWaifs in #KCMO

This beautiful girl with a very big smile is Sarah.  She's 7 year old senior Labrador Retriever mix who was an owner surrender at Wayside Waifs in Kansas City.

Sarah has lots of pep and energy even if her age labels her as a senior dog.  She knows sit, come, shake, look, target and is very treat and toy motivated.  She'd really love a home for the holidays.

Here's Sarah's adoption message:
Hi, my name's Sarah! I'm an adorable, 58-pound pup with the cutest smile. My last owner who could no longer care for me brought me to Wayside Waifs. It's okay, though because I know now I have the best chance at finding my fur-ever family.
I can be a little cautious around unfamiliar people. Because of this I'll do best in a home with children over the age of 10. A calmer, quieter environment will help me feel more comfortable in my new home. I also prefer not to share my castle with canine friends. I have a lot of energy so getting active will be an important part in my new life. Because I tend to get a little excited while on walks I'll benefit from using a harness to help me stick right by your side instead of pulling ahead.
I'm a smart girl too! I know commands like sit, come, shake, look, and target and I'm eager to learn even more! The best way to get me motivated is with fun toys or yummy treats! With a refresher course on my basic obedience I know I'll make the best companion in my fur-ever home. If a girl like me is what you're looking for don't hesitate to stop by Wayside Waifs to say hi!  Love, Sarah

For more information about Sarah,
contact Wayside Waifs at  816-761-8151.
Sarah's adoption ID number is 29664199
Her adoption fee has been reduced to $25.

Monty a 10 Year Old Coonhound Dog @#WaysideWaifs in #KCMO Wants a Home for the Holidays

Meet Montgomery, nicknamed Monty.  He's a 10 year old senior purebred Coonhound dog who has found himself in a shelter.  In fact, he's been in a shelter for a very long time.  First in a rural shelter and now at Wayside Waifs in Kansas City.

He may be a 10 year old senior, but he's still got some pep and energy, plus a whole lot of loving to do.  Please share him and help find him a home for the holidays.

Here's Monty's adoption message:
Hi there, I'm Montgomery, or Monty, as many of my good friends like to call me. I am one special, precious, sweet dog, filled with love and ready to be part of a family. My life has been sort of rough lately, but I will never let that get me down. Nope. I'm filled with faith that my family is out there for me, searching for me, ready to give me the good life.

I'm a handsome, 10 year old, 64 pounds of pure sweetness, purebred Coonhound. I keep my kennel very clean and I know to go to the bathroom outside, so with a little patience from you, I'm sure I will pick up on housetraining quickly. I've been in a shelter for a very long time though, so please be gentle with me and give me a little extra time to get into my new routine with you. I came to Wayside from a rural shelter in Kansas and I had been at that shelter for so long. The volunteers there loved me and hated to give me up, but they knew my best chance for my happily ever after would be at Wayside. So here I am!

Sometimes I get passed by because of my age or because I'm being treated for heartworms. Well, I'll be past this heartworm nonsense in no time and I don't mind staying calm and quiet for a few weeks while the medicine does its thing. As far as my senior status, I feel that age is just a number and I've got plenty of living left to do! I love to run and play and explore and stay active. And besides, none of us knows how long we have left on this earth, so the key is to appreciate each and every day. I'm very good at that!
I love people! I like to stay close and soak up any attention you will share with me. I want so much to live indoors with you and be part of the family. I'm anxious to please you and I'll make a wonderful companion. I'm perfect at just hanging out and chilling with the family. I'd like to meet everyone before we all go home together, including any kids or other dogs you have. I'm looking for a sort of quiet and calm home, but older kids and laidback dogs might be a good match for me. I love to go for leisurely walks with you and show off my hound nose. It feels so good to be by your side and feel your pride as we walk through our neighborhood.

I just want to belong to a real family. I want my golden years to be the best years of my life. I want to make your life better, just by having me in it. I'll do my best to make you happy every single day for the rest of my life. I can't wait to get started!
Love, Monty

Adopt #SeniorDog Lilly a #Pitbull Mix @WaysideWaifs in #KCMO

This beautiful senior girl is Lilly.  She is a 10 year old Pit Bull Terrier mix. Animal shelter staff and volunteers report that Lilly is a sweet soul. She loves to go for walks, play with balls and toys, plus she's smart and eager to please.

Be sure to watch Lilly's adoption video. Note: it was filmed well over a year ago. Lilly has been waiting for a home for a very long time.

Here's Lilly's adoption message:
Hi there, I'm Lilly! I am such a simple, sweet soul, just longing for the love of a forever family. I promise not to ask for much...just a quiet life with you by my side would mean the world to me. I try so hard not to lose hope or feel down that I'm homeless once again. But I'm one of those dogs who never seem to be able to catch a break in life. I know that happens with people too, so I don't mean to complain. I try my best to look forward and have faith that this is where I am meant to be in order to finally find you.

I'm a laidback, easygoing, senior dog, weighing in at 48 pounds of solid muscle and love. I'm already housebroken, but please be patient with me when we get home, as I get used to my new routine with you. I have been through a lot in my life. I lost one home because my breed wasn't welcome in the city I lived in. I spent months at Wayside, searching for a new family. And I was eventually adopted, but my owner couldn't care for me. It was a stressful time for all of us and I was treated harshly in that home. That's why I flinch at times when you approach me now. I'm a loyal and loving dog, so this time around I am looking for a kind and gentle person to share my life with.

I'm sort of a rock star here at Wayside and I'm proud to say that the volunteers love me! They make me feel so special and cared for. I love to go out for walks and I enjoy my exercise time. It helps me to stay happy and healthy. I do pull on my leash sometimes, but a harness works just great for me. And I love to play with balls and toys. I'm smart and eager to please, so I'm always open to learning new things. Please use positive reinforcement with me, by praising me when I am a good girl, because I respond very well to that. I'm sort of an independent gal, so I promise not to bother you for constant attention. But when you want me, just call my name and I will be there! I'm affectionate and cuddly and super sweet. I love to be by your side, curled up next to you on the couch or just in the same room with you. I just like to know that you're there. I'm chilled out and relaxed in a home or car or fenced in yard.

Since I'm looking for a quiet and calm home without a lot going on, I think I'll be happiest in a home without kids under the age of at least 5. And I can be picky about my dog friends, but I tend to do best with other low energy dogs. Or I'd love to be your only dog as well! Why don't you just plan to bring the whole family out to meet me and we'll see how we all get along.

I'm not sure why finding my forever family has been so elusive for me. I'm a wonderful dog with so much to offer. I will make a loyal, devoted companion to you for the rest of my life. I'd love to make up for lost time and find the perfect new home where we can just hang out and appreciate each other. I don't need adventure or much to do...I just need you. I hope you need me too!
Love, Lilly

Adopt Lucy a 10 Year Old #Pitbull #SeniorDog @WaysideWaifs in #KCMO

This gorgeous girl is Lucy.  Just look at that beautiful brindle coat!  Lucy is an American Pit Bull Terrier mix and 10 years old. I can't even imagine how bewildered she must be at finding herself in an animal shelter.

Lucy loves taking walks, knows basic commands and is already housebroken. Here's her adoption message:
Hey there! I'm Lucy. I was brought to Wayside Waifs when my last owner could no longer care for me. I've had such a great experience since I've been here. Wayside's giving me the second chance at life that I deserve and I love being a Waif! Even though I really love it here, I can't wait to meet my new family and find my fur-ever home.

I'm a pretty big girl, weighing about 51 pounds. I have beautiful, soft, brindle fur. I'm looking for a home without other furry friends and children over the age of 5. I can be a little shy at first so it'll take me some time to adjust to my new surroundings. After I warm up I'll show you just how sweet I can be! I'm a pretty laid back girl who's great at taking walks on my leash. I'm also really smart! I know commands like "sit", "down", "come" and "shake" and I'm even house trained! I'm ready to learn even more in my new home! I'm especially motivated by praise or yummy treats!

Would I make a great addition to your home? I'd love to meet you soon! Come visit me at Wayside Waifs!

Adopt Sherman a #SeniorDog @WaysideWaifs in #KCMO

This good looking guy is Sherman.  He's an 8 year old senior dog who's had a rough life.  Rescued from a hoarding situation in New York City, he was taken in by Wayside Waifs in Kansas City.

Wayside Waifs describes Sherman as a Hound / Retriever mix.  He already knows basic commands, but would be a great candidate for further training.

Here's Sherman's adoption message:
How's it going everyone? My name is Sherman and I come to you from New York City. Wanna good dog and pal to call your own? Fuhgeddaboudit!! I am the boy for you.

Let me give you a little history on myself so you can get to know me. I have had kind of a rough life up to this point, and I am just looking for a family to call my own. I am an 8 year old Hound/Retriever mix. So I am a little older, but you know what they say "Like a fine wine, I just get better with time." Like I said, I came here from the Big Apple to find a new life and new family. I was transferred here from the ASPCA that rescued me from a hoarding like situation. I did not always get the care and training I needed, but I am ready to start life now and do whatever you need me to do.
Like a true New Yorker, I had to fight and be tough to get along. However, now that I am here in Kansas City, I am ready to find a nice home that I can be with a good family. I already know commands like sit and come, but I think it is going to be best that I get some more training so I can be an even better companion for you. I haven't really had a home of my own, so it is going to be best to get some refresher courses on house training and basic obedience also. I do also like to get outside and have some exercise that will keep me mentally and physically happy. I am older, but I still have a lot of life and energy to give in this body.

So let's talk a little about when we go home together. I am going to need a place with older kids living there and I will also want to meet all new canine family before we go as well. Coming from the environment that I did, I do get a little stressed out and take some time to warm up. Once I do warm up to my new family, I am going to show you how great I am. I will usually seek out love and attention, but when I do I love to get petted as much as you want to. If you just have patience with me to help me learn and let me adjust, then I promise I will be the best dog you will ever want.
Oh, and before I forget, I do have one more thing to let you know. Like any New Yorker, with pizza, pasta, or steak, I do love my food. I am not saying I need to eat that kind of meal, but I will need to eat in a safe place away from everyone. I just want to enjoy my dinner in peace before we get back to all the family loving on me.

So as you can see, it has been a rough go for me. But I am not complaining one bit. I came here to seek out a new life and start with a clean slate. Give me your time and patience, and I will give you my unconditional love and a lot of fun. Take a chance on me; you won't be sorry you did.

Adopt #OceanBreeze a #Basset #LabradorRetriever #SeniorDog @WaysideWaifs in #KCMO

I admit I chuckled when I read the breed description for this beautiful boy.  Let's face it, it's an unusual mix.  You see, Ocean Breeze is a Basset Hound and Labrador Retriever.  He's also a senior dog that has found himself at Wayside Waifs animal shelter in Kansas City, Missouri.

Ocean Breeze is 7 years old and looking for a forever home.  You could call him a Bassador, but as he barks in his adoption message, he prefers Ambassador!  And it sounds like he knows what he's talking about.

Hello Everyone! I know what you're thinking...why am I named Ocean Breeze? Well, I've been wondering the same thing. Someone gave me that name and it does paint a peaceful picture. Don't you like an ocean breeze? And I'm a peaceful kind of a guy. After all, peace and wisdom come with age and I'm a mature gentleman.

I'm a black basset hound/labrador retriever mix...or a "Bassador." I prefer "Ambassador" because I like to meet and greet everyone I see, and I'm very polite. In fact I'm the good will ambassador for dogs my age, who are no longer puppies, but full of life and love. I'm seven years old and still have lots of energy and interests! I'll be wagging my big, lush tail when you come to meet me. (My tail is remarkable, if I do say so myself!)

Exploring, walking on a leash, and sniffing my surroundings are my favorite things. It works for me, because I'm a low-rider and my nose is already close to the ground. I hope you like taking walks, because I'd be very happy as your partner. I'm a calm fellow, rather laid back, and eager to please. I know how to "sit" and "come" and enjoy all kinds of attention. A refresher course in basic obedience and house training might be something to consider. I'm up for anything because I'm just a happy, confident guy!

I was transferred to Wayside Waifs from another shelter which became too crowded. Boy I'm happy to be here, because I know this is a great opportunity for me to find my forever home. The people here say I'll make some lucky person an excellent companion. Being an ambassador, I get praised a lot around here. Praise and treats make me even happier.

Right now I'm hoping I can become an ambassador in your home. I promise to keep things running smoothly and will try to make everyone comfortable! I'd love to meet all the members of your family and any other pets you have. Since I'm an older boy, I may do better with kids over 5, but we can see about that when you visit. I'll appreciate a safe, quiet place when I eat my meals in my new home. I know you will help work that out for me. Please come out to meet me soon. I just have a feeling that we'll be perfect together!

Lots of love from Ocean Breeze...the Ambassador of Wayside Waifs
