In Honor of Rudy - Labrador Retriever Dog Jewelry at For Love of a Dog

It is no accident that I have always had more Labrador Retriever dog jewelry than any other dog breed.  In the very beginning of For Love of a Dog Jewelry, my heart dog Lucy was my inspiration.  (That's Lucy in my For Love of a Dog business logo.)

Since I lost Lucy, Rudy has been more than happy to inspire me.  He's been a terrific model and is a great example of his breed.  He's also pretty sure there's a reason Labrador Retrievers are so popular:  Labs are fantastic!

Because Rudy's birthday is tomorrow, I thought I should feature my Labrador Retriever dog jewelry today.

Even though I'm now closing my jewelry business, I do have a pretty good selection of Labrador Retriever dog jewelry.

Is your favorite dog a yellow Labrador Retriever or are you shopping for a yellow Lab dog lover?  As I write this I currently have 11 bracelets, 8 necklaces, 1 pin, 1 pendant and 1 pair of Labrador Retriever puppy earrings.  When these are sold, there will be no more.

Maybe your favorite are black Labs.  I have less of my black Labrador Retriever dog jewelry still available.  Right now I have 4 bracelets, 3 necklaces, 1 pendant, 2 pins and 1 black Lab leash holder.

If you're shopping for someone who loves a chocolate Lab, hurry and fetch a piece of my jewelry before it's all gone!  Right now I have 5 bracelets, 2 pendants, 1 pin, 1 necklace and 1 pair of chocolate Lab earrings.

I used to import these amazing carved gemstone pendants from Hong Kong.  They're hand carved from solid gemstones.  Some are tigerseye and some are a jasper and I only have these 5 necklaces left.   I also have loved incorporating vintage things in my jewelry and that's the case with the amazing vintage brass repousse necklace shown above.

Shop For Love of a Dog now for best selection.  Because I'm closing, there will be no more in the future.  Find your favorite dog breed jewelry and snag some Christmas gift bargains in my huge sale, plus enjoy free standard shipping!

Yes, Rudy.  There will be birthday treats!

Adopt Suzie a Black #Lab #ShelterDog @WaysideWaifs in #KCMO #OpttoAdopt

Meet Suzie!  This cute girl is a small Lab mix who is 3 years old.  She's hoping for a loving forever home with people who will take her on walks, teach her a few tricks and let her love them.

Here's Suzie's adoption message:
Hey there! I'm Suzie, an adorable, Retriever/Lab mix, weighing about 48 pounds and looking for a place to call my own. I was transferred here when my last shelter ran out of space for me. I was pretty bummed but now I see that here I have the best chance at meeting the right peeps for me. I may do best as the queen of my castle when it comes to other animals but I'll do grr-eat with children.
I have a lot of energy to spare and will need a home where I can stay active! I love to get out and explore the world on walks and the peeps here say I do pretty well sticking right by your side on my leash instead of pulling ahead. I'm super smart and know a lot of commands already like sit, down, come, look, target, and off!
With continued training and extra motivation from yummy treats I know I'll be able to learn even more from you! It won't take long for me to learn exactly what you expect from me and become the companion you've always dreamed of. I can't wait to get to my fur-ever home and show my peeps just how much love and affection I have to offer. I hope you'll come meet me soon to find out if those peeps could be you! Tail wags for stopping by my page.
Love,  Suzie

Rudy and his favorite toy.
Forget what they say about Labs.
This is a boy who would rather play than eat.

Adopt Penelope a #LabradorRetriever #Rottweiler #Dog @WaysideWaifs in #KCMO

UPDATE - May 6 - ADOPTED! Thanks to all who shared Penelope!

This sweet girl is Penelope.  She's a Labrador Retriever - Rottweiler mix dog who's 4 1/2 years old.  She's a big beautiful girl at 82 pounds.

Poor Penelope found herself at a shelter that ran out of space last summer.  Thankfully she was rescued by Wayside Waifs.  She's been there ever since and is hoping that she'll find her forever peeps soon.

Here's her adoption message:
Hello! My name is Penelope and I am a beautiful, 4 ½ year old, 82 pound, partially housetrained, Lab/Rottweiler mix. I'm a smart and sweet natured dog with a delightful personality. I originally came to Wayside Waifs last summer, from the shelter in Clinton, MO, when they ran out of space for me. Even before that time, my life had been full of instability and stress. I longed for a routine and a family to care for and love that would do the same for me. But it just hasn't happened. I was adopted last fall, but things didn't work out for me there, so now I'm back. I'm searching and I'm waiting and watching for you. I hope we recognize each other when we meet. I've been waiting for you for so long now.

It's hard getting used to life in a shelter. When I first got here, I was so afraid and didn't know who I could trust. But I started making a few friends and life got so much brighter. It's a pretty incredible thing when you figure out how to bond with people and let them into your life. And I started enjoying my walks and playing with toys and just hanging out. I became a volunteer favorite at Wayside. I'm a sensitive dog, so I hope you will be gentle and calm with me. Please use positive reinforcement only, by offering me plenty of praise when I am a good girl. This will help me learn what you expect from me and help build my confidence at the same time. I'm smart and very eager to make you happy, so I promise to pick up on things quickly. And it's so much less confusing when you treat me calmly and consistently. I understand so much better! I know several commands already and will be happy to show them to you when you come to meet me.

In my last home, I was on my way to getting housetrained, but I couldn't quite fully get there. I was left alone for over 10 hours a day, so that was a long time for me to hold it. You can crate me when you are away, and that will help me become fully housetrained, since I'm already close. Of course, I hope you are home with me as much as possible, because I love to be by your side. I'm an affectionate and loving gal. In my last home, I didn't get along well with the cats. I was always afraid they were going to take my stuff, so I liked to keep them out of my space. I'm sort of protective about my things. Please give me a safe and quiet place to eat my meals, so that I won't feel threatened. Also in my home, I was well behaved in my fenced in yard, I loved to go for car rides, and I was friendly with new people, once I became comfortable with them. Please let me go at my own pace though. I will approach new people when I am ready. I barked when people came to the door, but in general, I'm a quiet and calm dog. At night, I liked to be in the bedroom with my mom. And I slept with my favorite toy every single night. It comforted me.

Since I'm cautious of new people and situations, and since I'm protective of my things, I think I'll be happiest in a home with just adults or with kids over the age of at least 12. I also need a home without cats, small dogs, or other small, furry animals. Truth be told, I'd love to be your only animal, but I might do ok with a laid back male dog who doesn't get in my face. If you'll allow me to be your only pet, I will promise you so much doggie love that I'll be enough for you!

I am sweet and sensitive and unassuming. I promise I won't ask for much. I just want to be part of a family. I want to feel safe and loved and wanted. A little exercise and a little attention will go a long way with me. I just want to be yours, for the rest of my life. I hope you want that too. I'm ready to go as soon as you get here. My bags are packed, I've said my goodbyes, and I am so ready to walk away from my past and into my future with you.
Love, Penelope

Labrador Retriever Dog Jewelry | Dog Lover Holiday Gifts

What's your favorite color of Lab: black, chocolate, yellow, and even golden fox red.  Our Labrador Retriever dog jewelry includes them all.  However, selection at For Love of a Dog Jewelry can be limited since almost all items are one of a kind.  When they're gone, they're gone.

If you have a Lab lover on your holiday shopping list, you owe it to yourself to browse necklaces, bracelets, earrings, pins, pendants and more for perfect gifts and Christmas stocking stuffers.

The black Labrador Retriever dog bracelet shown above features turquoise gemstone beads, plus peridot and turquoise crystals.  All accent the sweet two dimensional hand crafted black Lab charm.  Of course, there's a silver heart and dog bone, too.  This just one example of the Lab bracelets available.

Here's a chocolate Labrador Retriever dog and paw print necklace.  Adorable chocolate Lab pendant is combined with cool artisan paw print lampwork beads and some wild jasper gemstone bead.

This yellow Labrador Retriever dog necklace includes a sweet red jasper heart and some three dimensional glass dog bones.

Shown below is a golden (fox red) Labrador Retriever dog bracelet.  Beautiful silver floral beads are combined with jet black obsidian gemstone beads provide wonderful contrast to the Lab dog charm.

The dog breed Christmas ornaments are almost all sold out, however you can snag a golden Labrador Retriever dog Christmas ornament - there's just one available now.
If you hurry, there may still be a yellow Labrador ornament and right this moment there are 3 chocolate Lab Christmas ornaments available.  Did I mention, they're on sale! Sorry, the black Lab ornaments are sold out.

Be sure to browse the mutts dog jewelry and Dog Mom jewelry for great gift ideas for other dog lovers.  And if your Lab loves to play with tennis balls, be sure to check out the fetch and flyball dog jewelry.

Adopt Bode Miller a Lab Mix Dog at #WaysideWaifs | #TuesdaysTails

This handsome boy is Bode Miller.  He's a one year old Labrador Retriever mixed breed dog available for adoption from Wayside Waifs in Kansas City.

Here's what Bode would like you to know:

Hi there, I'm Bode Miller... a young Labrador mix from Topeka, KS. I came to Wayside Waifs in hopes that I'll have better luck finding my forever family here - I've got my paws crossed!
I'm a playful, energetic boy so I'm hoping to find an active family that can give me plenty of daily exercise. I would make a great running-buddy because I can definitely keep up! Also, like most dogs my age, I'll need a family that can commit to teaching me some basic commands. A little patience (and LOTS of treats!!) is really all I need but to be honest, I wouldn't mind going to a basic training class. I think that would be helpful and so much fun! It's probably best that my new home doesn't have children under the age of five years old. Don't get me wrong, I am super friendly and kind but I want to work on my manners first. I really am just a loveable sweetheart, at least that's what everyone tells me here.

While I've made lots of wonderful friends at Wayside Waifs, I am ready to find a real home with a family that I can call my very own. I promise to be loyal to my new family and to be the very best dog I can be. I know they won't be disappointed!

Come on down to Wayside Waifs, bring the family (canines too!) and ask to see me, Bode Miller. You just may be the forever family that I've been waiting to find. Hope to see you soon!

Love,  Bode Miller
Check out Bode in his adoption video below to see him in action.  More info?  Contact Wayside Waifs at 816-761-8151.  Bode Miller's animal ID number is 21784158

Monday Mischief: Falling in Love with a Lab Puppy

Our sweet boy, Rudy is celebrating his third birthday on Thursday and I just wanted to take a little trip down memory lane. The way he joined our family includes a bit of mischief.

Mischief #1:  Rudy's biological mother, Daisy, had an oops pregnancy.  Daisy's family never planned to breed her, but postponed spaying her until after they'd moved from Kentucky to Missouri.

Daisy's human, Jamie, had a laundry basket full of Lab puppies - black, chocolate, ginger gold, lemon white - at the vet's to be checked, get their first shots and be wormed.

Mischief #2:  Enter the Talking Dogs dog daddy who was at the vet to pick up some medications for our senior dogs, Lucy and Tucker.  Can you say: love at first sight?

Mischief #3:  The dog daddy gave Jamie his phone number.  Then proceeded to get very depressed when she didn't call for a week or so.

Mischief #4:  Jamie called.  And despite the fact that the dog daddy says his dog limit is 2 dogs, and despite the fact that we already had 3 dogs,  the dog daddy fell in love with the lemon white puppy who came to be know as Rudy.

Jeffie adopted Rudy as his own and the two became inseparable.  Lucy adored him as she had no other dog.  And in Tucker's final days with us, it was Rudy who kept vigil.

Rudy was the first born and largest in his litter.  He grew so fast and so big that we began to joke that he was either a Great Dane in Lab's "clothing" or a pony.

Rudy is the sweetest and most selfless dog I've ever known, even willing to give up his favorite treats or toys to his adored sister, Rosie.  A goofy clown at times and a beautiful, beautiful boy always.

There's an old quotation about how sometimes things are meant to be.  We weren't planning on adding a puppy to our family in 2010.  Thanks goodness for the mischief that brought Rudy to us.

Happy Birthday, my pretty boy, Rudy Kazootie!

Thank you to Snoopy’s Dog Blog, Alfie’s Blog, and My Brown Newfies for hosting Monday Mischief!
