Monday Mischief: Falling in Love with a Lab Puppy

Our sweet boy, Rudy is celebrating his third birthday on Thursday and I just wanted to take a little trip down memory lane. The way he joined our family includes a bit of mischief.

Mischief #1:  Rudy's biological mother, Daisy, had an oops pregnancy.  Daisy's family never planned to breed her, but postponed spaying her until after they'd moved from Kentucky to Missouri.

Daisy's human, Jamie, had a laundry basket full of Lab puppies - black, chocolate, ginger gold, lemon white - at the vet's to be checked, get their first shots and be wormed.

Mischief #2:  Enter the Talking Dogs dog daddy who was at the vet to pick up some medications for our senior dogs, Lucy and Tucker.  Can you say: love at first sight?

Mischief #3:  The dog daddy gave Jamie his phone number.  Then proceeded to get very depressed when she didn't call for a week or so.

Mischief #4:  Jamie called.  And despite the fact that the dog daddy says his dog limit is 2 dogs, and despite the fact that we already had 3 dogs,  the dog daddy fell in love with the lemon white puppy who came to be know as Rudy.

Jeffie adopted Rudy as his own and the two became inseparable.  Lucy adored him as she had no other dog.  And in Tucker's final days with us, it was Rudy who kept vigil.

Rudy was the first born and largest in his litter.  He grew so fast and so big that we began to joke that he was either a Great Dane in Lab's "clothing" or a pony.

Rudy is the sweetest and most selfless dog I've ever known, even willing to give up his favorite treats or toys to his adored sister, Rosie.  A goofy clown at times and a beautiful, beautiful boy always.

There's an old quotation about how sometimes things are meant to be.  We weren't planning on adding a puppy to our family in 2010.  Thanks goodness for the mischief that brought Rudy to us.

Happy Birthday, my pretty boy, Rudy Kazootie!

Thank you to Snoopy’s Dog Blog, Alfie’s Blog, and My Brown Newfies for hosting Monday Mischief!

  2. Oh he really is a beaut. Your husband is pretty special too. Mine is a great guy but firmly a one dog man. Sigh. I'd love it if he came home with another dog for us...

  7. Happy Birthday, Rudy! I love this story, Sue! Thanks for sharing how Rudy came to be yours - and yes, it was meant to be! And haha, I love when dog dads are just as bad about falling in love as we dog moms! Can't blame him, either... Rudy is so handsome - I would've fallen in love too :).

  10. I love this story. Rudy reminds me so much of my own Sampson, not just because he is also a lab mix, but they have a similar look about them and Sampson is also self-less and just the sweetest thing. I fall in love with Lab puppies every time I see one. :-D Happy birthday Rudy boy, and many, many more!!
