Dog Song Saturday: Rootie Kazootie

It's Saturday, so time for a dog song at Talking Dogs.  However, today's music video is quite a bit different.  For one thing, it is not really a song about a dog!

Some of you may remember that our yellow Labrador Retriever, Rudy, is named after the main character in one of my favorites children's books:  Rootie Kazootie.

Since this week we celebrated our Rudy's third birthday, I had some fun with a search on YouTube and found this amazing early recording of the theme song for a 1950s children's television show The Rootie Kazootie Club.

Wow.  I never knew there was a television show or that Rootie Kazootie was a puppet!  All I knew was that I "inherited" a very cool book when I was a kid.  Loved the book and loved saying the title out loud.  Go ahead, real it out loud and see if it isn't fun to say.

Anyway, I sure didn't know that Rootie Kazootie had a theme song!  I love the beginning lyrics:
Who is the boy, who is full of zip and joy?
He's Rootie Kazootie!

Who is the lad, who can make you feel so glad?
He's Rootie Kazootie!
So, grab a dog!  I've got my birthday boy, Rudy, here with me.  Sit.  Stay.  Relax and enjoy The Rootie Kazootie Club theme song.

  2. I knew about the song and the show because of my older sister who was born in 1951. I was born in 1955 and had never seen it. Super fun!
