Adopt Penelope a #LabradorRetriever #Rottweiler #Dog @WaysideWaifs in #KCMO

UPDATE - May 6 - ADOPTED! Thanks to all who shared Penelope!

This sweet girl is Penelope.  She's a Labrador Retriever - Rottweiler mix dog who's 4 1/2 years old.  She's a big beautiful girl at 82 pounds.

Poor Penelope found herself at a shelter that ran out of space last summer.  Thankfully she was rescued by Wayside Waifs.  She's been there ever since and is hoping that she'll find her forever peeps soon.

Here's her adoption message:
Hello! My name is Penelope and I am a beautiful, 4 ½ year old, 82 pound, partially housetrained, Lab/Rottweiler mix. I'm a smart and sweet natured dog with a delightful personality. I originally came to Wayside Waifs last summer, from the shelter in Clinton, MO, when they ran out of space for me. Even before that time, my life had been full of instability and stress. I longed for a routine and a family to care for and love that would do the same for me. But it just hasn't happened. I was adopted last fall, but things didn't work out for me there, so now I'm back. I'm searching and I'm waiting and watching for you. I hope we recognize each other when we meet. I've been waiting for you for so long now.

It's hard getting used to life in a shelter. When I first got here, I was so afraid and didn't know who I could trust. But I started making a few friends and life got so much brighter. It's a pretty incredible thing when you figure out how to bond with people and let them into your life. And I started enjoying my walks and playing with toys and just hanging out. I became a volunteer favorite at Wayside. I'm a sensitive dog, so I hope you will be gentle and calm with me. Please use positive reinforcement only, by offering me plenty of praise when I am a good girl. This will help me learn what you expect from me and help build my confidence at the same time. I'm smart and very eager to make you happy, so I promise to pick up on things quickly. And it's so much less confusing when you treat me calmly and consistently. I understand so much better! I know several commands already and will be happy to show them to you when you come to meet me.

In my last home, I was on my way to getting housetrained, but I couldn't quite fully get there. I was left alone for over 10 hours a day, so that was a long time for me to hold it. You can crate me when you are away, and that will help me become fully housetrained, since I'm already close. Of course, I hope you are home with me as much as possible, because I love to be by your side. I'm an affectionate and loving gal. In my last home, I didn't get along well with the cats. I was always afraid they were going to take my stuff, so I liked to keep them out of my space. I'm sort of protective about my things. Please give me a safe and quiet place to eat my meals, so that I won't feel threatened. Also in my home, I was well behaved in my fenced in yard, I loved to go for car rides, and I was friendly with new people, once I became comfortable with them. Please let me go at my own pace though. I will approach new people when I am ready. I barked when people came to the door, but in general, I'm a quiet and calm dog. At night, I liked to be in the bedroom with my mom. And I slept with my favorite toy every single night. It comforted me.

Since I'm cautious of new people and situations, and since I'm protective of my things, I think I'll be happiest in a home with just adults or with kids over the age of at least 12. I also need a home without cats, small dogs, or other small, furry animals. Truth be told, I'd love to be your only animal, but I might do ok with a laid back male dog who doesn't get in my face. If you'll allow me to be your only pet, I will promise you so much doggie love that I'll be enough for you!

I am sweet and sensitive and unassuming. I promise I won't ask for much. I just want to be part of a family. I want to feel safe and loved and wanted. A little exercise and a little attention will go a long way with me. I just want to be yours, for the rest of my life. I hope you want that too. I'm ready to go as soon as you get here. My bags are packed, I've said my goodbyes, and I am so ready to walk away from my past and into my future with you.
Love, Penelope

Adopt Carley a Dog Waiting for 6 Years | Tuesdays Tails

Carley has been waiting her whole life to be adopted.  She is 6 years old.

I featured Carley as an adoptable dog a year ago here on Talking Dogs blog.

I told you then about how Carley found herself at Dogwood Animal Shelter while still a small puppy.  Her brother was soon adopted.

Carley is still waiting.  She's been waiting six years.

She's been waiting her whole life for a home.

Carley is listed by the shelter as an Australian Cattle Dog and Labrador Retriever mixed breed dog.  She looks like a Rottweiler mix to me, however whatever breeds are in her dna, this girl deserves a home.

Primarily black with some tan, Carley weighs about 65 pounds and has been spayed.  She completed the shelter's six week obedience class long ago.  Shelter staff report that Carley is smart, learns quickly, and is very eager to please.

For more information about Carley, contact Dogwood Animal Shelter at 573-348-4411.

Some of you may remember that Dogwood is the same no-kill shelter where Hailey lived - the dog who had spent all 8 years of her life - until I enlisted the help of Neil at Life With Dogs and Hailey found a home.

Dogwood Animal Shelter is a non-profit, no kill animal shelter that has been in operation for over 30 years.  Their services include:  low-cost spay/neuter clinic, obedience classes, and more.  They are funded exclusively by donations and proceeds from their Dogwood Thrift Shop in Camdenton, Missouri.

We're participating in the Tuesday's Tails blog hop hosted by Dogs N Pawz and Talking Dogs.  This is the blog hop that features shelter pets available for adoption.  Find a pet at your local animal shelter or rescue and join us!  Please help spread the word about these beautiful animals via social media and let's find them forever homes.

Fetch the new Tuesday's Tails Facebook page, give us a "like" and please, share the pets listed there.  They're counting on you.

Some happy news!  Remember Barry White the pitbull featured here last month?  I found out yesterday that Barry White has been adopted!.
