Follow-up Friday: Rants, Fat Dogs, Videos!

I'm happy to be joining Heart Like a Dog in the follow-up Friday blog hop this week.  This is the blog hop that lets you wrap up your week and leads you right into the weekend.  Hosted by FUF creator, Jodi at Heart Like a Dog

Do you mind if I rant a little bit?
Why does October have so many cool things to celebrate or blog about?  And why are some of them even on the same day?  Adopt a Dog, Adopt a Shelter Dog, Pet Obesity Awareness Month, Breast Cancer Awareness Month.  Dog-gone it, National Pit Bull Awareness Day and National Mule Day are the same exact day.  Shoot.  There are others.  Why couldn't they all be spread out better over the year.

This week I reached my quota of horrible animal stories.  I'd just read (skimmed) the news story about another brutal crime of cruelty towards a dog and another story about the Georgia animal shelter break in (asshats turned dogs loose and made them fight), when I had an email from a friend involved in rescue in NY with another gruesome tale of cruelty.  Some days I think I just can't take any more.  You, too?

Okay, this isn't really a rant.  You know how you hear over and over again that Labs will eat anything?  Not Rudy.  A couple of days ago I finally got around to adding my dogs to Pets Move and I felt strange as I put in Rudy's weight:  104.  Doesn't that just plain sound fat for a Lab?   Well, Rudy is NOT fat!  However, I have a feeling that as Rosie moves from puppy to dog... she'll be needing to join doggie weight watchers.  [And I want you to know, per our vet, Rudy is in tip top health!]

Rudy... fat?  Not.

Feral Cat Song - Dog Song Saturday
I'm a feral cat feeder.  If you are, too, don't miss the lyrics to this song!  Many thanks to Beth for the reminder of the Mean Kitty Song.  I featured it a few years ago on Dog Song Saturday.   Thanks also to Ann for the link to this very creative cat themed song and video!

Adopt Lilith a Pit Bull Dog in Missouri
Lilith is my most recent adoptable dog feature.  You know, I love the adoption updates so many of the Tuesdays Tails blog hop bloggers post.  Unfortunately, nearly all of the dogs I feature are from "kill" shelters.  I've learned the hard way to not do follow up.  Follow up usually results in sleepless nights, terrible dreams, and increased temptation to become one of those terribly misguided hoarders.

Herbsmith Freeze Dried Dog Treats Review
I'm increasing intrigued with freeze dried dog food and treats.  My pack loves these, plus we've been using Orijen's freeze dried dog food as a topper on their food.  Finally, Rudy is excited about food.

My Shelter Dogs - Wordless Wednesday
Loved all the great comments and compliments about Jeffie and Rosie.  They're just the latest shelter dogs in my life.  Beginning with Bennie, my first dog after I left home; Sherman,  and Spanky.  The others weren't lucky enough to have managed to get themselves to a shelter, but were lucky enough to have been rescued by me :-)

Adopt a Shelter Dog - Favorite Videos
If you missed this post, fetch it!  Honestly, these are great videos promoting adoption.  And they are upbeat!!

And finally... thanks to everyone who's been leaving such fabulous comments on my jewelry posts.  I truly read and appreciate every single one!

    1. One school of thought is that such images and videos are needed to create awareness. Though I know it's not popular, I tend to worry that these things give creeps ideas :-(

  3. Thanks for joining the blog hop Sue, it breaks my heart to read the abuse/cruelty cases. Those are the times I wish they didn't get due process and just got what they were due. And I sure hope they find those asshats in Georgia!

104 is a lot of weight, but Rudy does not look fat at all, he must just be big boned. As long as he is healthy there is no need to worry.

For the record, I can't follow-up on my adoptable dogs either, it would break my heart to know they didn't make it out.

    Have a wonderful weekend.

    1. I love the "big boned," Jodi. That's what I say about my own weight - LOL

Once in awhile I feature a dog that's in rescue/foster care partly because I know there will be a happy ending. In fact, Tally, the Coonhound I featured recently had a meet and greet scheduled for today. My fingers are crossed that I'll have good news to report soon!

  5. I know there are a lot of horrible sadistic people around who abuse animals, but there are many more who go out of their way to help any animal in need. It is unfortunate that we hear through the media far more about the abusers than the inspirers

    1. You are absolutely right, Jan. Some days I just feel bombarded by evil and I do forget all the heroes, heroines, and wonderful things going on in the world, too. Thanks for the reminder :-)

  6. Rudy looks great! His weight reminds me when I used to tell some of the ladies at work what I weighed - "Wow, but you're so skinny." Well, yeah - and I'm 8 inches taller than you! Of course I weight a lot! So, tell Rudy it's how you look/feel, not the # on the scale! And he looks great!

As for those horrible people we have to share the planet with... I can't bear to hear those stories. But, yes, as Jan says - there are more good people in the world. We just don't hear about them as much. Still, sometimes it feels like a losing battle.

    1. Thanks, Jackie! I sometimes wonder if Rudy will eventually be one of those slug Labs who need to watch their weight. Time will tell that tale.

  7. It is always that way in life, feast or famine. One week there aren't enough days for my posts and the next week I can't think of anything to post. Rudy looks good to me, the key is to watch us all the time and the moment we start gaining, reduce food, increase exercise, if you wait then it gets harder to fix...same for humans I hear ;)

    1. You're absolutely correct, Emma! And waiting does make it so much harder to fix!

  8. Wow - Rudy looks great - I wouldn't say he's fat at all (unless you photo-shopped him ). He must be really tall at 104lbs.

    1. Nope, no photo-shopping here. Rudy IS tall. We joke that he's part pony :-)

  11. I know, it has been a busy month....so much to blog about, so little time! There were hops I wanted to join in on too, but sometimes there are too many on the same day!
I also get overloaded with the horrible animal abuse stories. There are days when I'm on Facebook and I just have to scroll by them because I can't take any more.
No way does Rudy look fat! He must be a big (tall) guy to weigh that much, or very very muscular!

  12. I am a week late...lol and will be cathing up on all the new dog jewelery. :) Rudy doesn't look fat and I know there are some very large, very fit labs. In fact Rudy looks more fit than some labs I see in the show ring and more like some labs I see at hunt tests. :)
