#OaktownPup Parody of Uptown Funk by Bruno Mars | Dog Song Saturday

Get up and dance with Dog Song Saturday at Talking Dogs.

We think you'll have a hard time sitting still listening to this barking good parody of Bruno Mars hit Uptown Funk.

Oaktown Pup stars adoptable dogs from the East Bay SPCA in Oakland, CA and we have no doubt you'll love the music video.  The opening shot features a pit bull mix named Carla and don't blink at the :54 mark or you'll miss the sweet doxie on wheels.

Created by the East Bay SPCA in an effort to get more of their rescue dogs adopted, Oaktown Pup is compelling.  We're betting the song's refrain will be an earworm:
Cause time's right for you to adopt!
Oh! And spay or neuter your pup!

In fact, you may want the lyrics so you can sing along!
This pup, he's East Bay
Pit Bull, just wanna play
These ones, from Stockton
Them good dogs, great lap sitters.
Long coat, short coat, livin' it up in the kennel
Got leash on with tongue out
Got lick myself, so pretty
I'm too cute (hot dog)
Call the mayor and your girlfriend
I'm too cute (hot dog)
Take selfie for instagram

@LovingPets Robusto Dog Bowl and Bella Mat | Product Review

At our house our dog bowls are an uncoordinated mix-up of vintage souffle pan, and a couple of cute dog bowls.  All are ceramic pottery which means taking some extra care to not crack or full-out break one.

So when I was offered a Robusto dog bowl from Loving Pets, I happily agreed to give it a try.

Loving Pets says their Robusto dog bowls are nearly indestructible.  In fact, they survived a true test of durability.  They ran one over with a 6500 pound truck and there was no damage! Seriously, no dents or scratches.

Robusto Bowls feature solid heavy gauge aluminum with cute creamic-like, bacteria resistant interiors.  Reasonable prices from $9.99 to $19.99.

Key Benefits:
  • skid free
  • clean easily
  • low noise
  • spill preventing
  • extremely durable
  • rubber base
  •  4 sizes - SS, S, M, L

We received a large size Robusto Bowl in ivory with scarlet dog bone interior pattern and I love it!
Though Jeffie and Rudy are not messy eaters or drinkers, Rosie seems to send more water onto the floor than she manages to get in her mouth.  So I was delighted that we also received a Bella Mat to try, too.
Bella® Spill-Proof Dog Mats prevents splashes and retain spills.  They have raised edges for maximum spill capacity, a slip-resistant, dog bone embossed surface, plus anti-skid feet to prevent slips, slides, nose and loor damage.  They are non-toxic and BPA free.  Great for indoor or outdoor use.  Priced from $10.99 for the small size 18.25 x 13.25 x 1.5 high) and $13.99 for the large size (21.25 inches long by 15.5 inches wide by 1.75 inches high.)
Rudy checked out the Bella Mat very thoroughly.
Key Benefits:
  • skid free
  • extremely durable
  • rubber feed
  • low noise
  • cleans easity
  • BPA free plastic
  • available in black or tan

Our Verdict:
All paws up!  The Robusto bowl is definitely sturdy and easy to wash.  Plus, it's very attractive.  The Bella Mat is wonderful  and saving our floors from Rosie's enthusiastic water lapping.

* We received one large Robusto Bowl and Bella Mat from Loving Pets Products in exchange for our honest review of the products.  We received no other compensation - financial or otherwise. Talking Dogs only shares information about pet products we believe our readers might enjoy.

Adopt Penelope a #LabradorRetriever #Rottweiler #Dog @WaysideWaifs in #KCMO

UPDATE - May 6 - ADOPTED! Thanks to all who shared Penelope!

This sweet girl is Penelope.  She's a Labrador Retriever - Rottweiler mix dog who's 4 1/2 years old.  She's a big beautiful girl at 82 pounds.

Poor Penelope found herself at a shelter that ran out of space last summer.  Thankfully she was rescued by Wayside Waifs.  She's been there ever since and is hoping that she'll find her forever peeps soon.

Here's her adoption message:
Hello! My name is Penelope and I am a beautiful, 4 ½ year old, 82 pound, partially housetrained, Lab/Rottweiler mix. I'm a smart and sweet natured dog with a delightful personality. I originally came to Wayside Waifs last summer, from the shelter in Clinton, MO, when they ran out of space for me. Even before that time, my life had been full of instability and stress. I longed for a routine and a family to care for and love that would do the same for me. But it just hasn't happened. I was adopted last fall, but things didn't work out for me there, so now I'm back. I'm searching and I'm waiting and watching for you. I hope we recognize each other when we meet. I've been waiting for you for so long now.

It's hard getting used to life in a shelter. When I first got here, I was so afraid and didn't know who I could trust. But I started making a few friends and life got so much brighter. It's a pretty incredible thing when you figure out how to bond with people and let them into your life. And I started enjoying my walks and playing with toys and just hanging out. I became a volunteer favorite at Wayside. I'm a sensitive dog, so I hope you will be gentle and calm with me. Please use positive reinforcement only, by offering me plenty of praise when I am a good girl. This will help me learn what you expect from me and help build my confidence at the same time. I'm smart and very eager to make you happy, so I promise to pick up on things quickly. And it's so much less confusing when you treat me calmly and consistently. I understand so much better! I know several commands already and will be happy to show them to you when you come to meet me.

In my last home, I was on my way to getting housetrained, but I couldn't quite fully get there. I was left alone for over 10 hours a day, so that was a long time for me to hold it. You can crate me when you are away, and that will help me become fully housetrained, since I'm already close. Of course, I hope you are home with me as much as possible, because I love to be by your side. I'm an affectionate and loving gal. In my last home, I didn't get along well with the cats. I was always afraid they were going to take my stuff, so I liked to keep them out of my space. I'm sort of protective about my things. Please give me a safe and quiet place to eat my meals, so that I won't feel threatened. Also in my home, I was well behaved in my fenced in yard, I loved to go for car rides, and I was friendly with new people, once I became comfortable with them. Please let me go at my own pace though. I will approach new people when I am ready. I barked when people came to the door, but in general, I'm a quiet and calm dog. At night, I liked to be in the bedroom with my mom. And I slept with my favorite toy every single night. It comforted me.

Since I'm cautious of new people and situations, and since I'm protective of my things, I think I'll be happiest in a home with just adults or with kids over the age of at least 12. I also need a home without cats, small dogs, or other small, furry animals. Truth be told, I'd love to be your only animal, but I might do ok with a laid back male dog who doesn't get in my face. If you'll allow me to be your only pet, I will promise you so much doggie love that I'll be enough for you!

I am sweet and sensitive and unassuming. I promise I won't ask for much. I just want to be part of a family. I want to feel safe and loved and wanted. A little exercise and a little attention will go a long way with me. I just want to be yours, for the rest of my life. I hope you want that too. I'm ready to go as soon as you get here. My bags are packed, I've said my goodbyes, and I am so ready to walk away from my past and into my future with you.
Love, Penelope

For Pete's Sake by Jason Matthews | Dog Song Saturday

Sometimes I think I should issue a tissue alert for a dog song featured here on Dog Song Saturday.  This is one of those times.

For Pete's Sake is an original dog song composed by Jason Matthews and performed here with Kerry Kurt Phillips.

Matthews notes:  Anyone who has ever loved a dog will understand.  For Pete's Sake tells the story of a "throw-away pup" that he rescued.  Pete became his closest friend and just like a brother.

I found him down on Red River Road, hungry and crying and cold
Just another throw away pup someone left to die
I wrapped him in my Carhart coat, let him have the rest of my Coke
The burger that I bought for lunch and the rest of my french fries
I knew dad would disapproved but all he had to say
Was "What ya gonna call that mutt for Pete's sake"

So I named him Pete with the one black eye
Corkscrew tail and funny underbite
He became my closest friend, just like a brother to me
And I slipped food underneath the table
Took the heat for that chewed-through cable
And I threw that tennis ball 'til my shoulder ached for Pete's sake

We'd go to town on Friday nights, Pete was just another one of the guys
Hanging out of my backseat window howling at the moon
Every time we passed a sno-cone stand, he would bark 'til I pulled in
And those girls would feed him rainbow ice until his tongue turned blue
He always had to chaperone when I went on a date
I let a couple cat lovers go for Pete's sake

And I leaned on Pete when my grandpa died
And for the next three weeks he never left my side
The way he looked at me, somehow he understood
And I had dreams out in Music City
So I left home and brought my biggest fan with me
Got a place next to a park with plenty room to play for Pete's sake

But the years turned Pete's eyes cloudy and his big nose gray
His old hips gave out he couldn't get around, I couldn't watch him hurt that way

And I told him, "Pete, up in Doggie Heaven
There's lotsa rainbow ice and tennis balls for fetching
And you won't hurt anymore, now, you be a good boy, ok?"
And I said, "Doc, go ahead and do it
Before I change my mind, before I lose it"
And I did the hardest thing I've ever had to do that day for Pete's sake
