Nutro Ultra Dog Treats from #Chewy.com | Product Review

We've been celebrating Rosie's first birthday this past week and what's a party without treats?

Chewy.com sent Rosie some Nutro Ultra dog biscuits for her party, so we had a gala taste testing with treats from Chewy.com.

We loved the Nutro Crunchy (mixed berry) dog treats we tried awhile back, so I was glad to receive some more Nutro brand dog treats.  I was betting we'd love these, too.  Should have put money on that one!

Rudy's ready for some Nutro dog treats!

Chewy.com gave us Nutro Ultra Wild Blueberry and Pomegranate Biscuits Antioxidant Blend Dog Treats.  According to the description, these dog treats don't just taste great, they serve a function, too.  Blueberries and pomegranate are loaded with powerfeul, cleansing antioxidants, so these treats support dogs' immune system and heart health.

Jeffie and Rudy love taste testing dog treats from Chewy.com

Nutro Ultra Wild Blueberry and Pomegranate Dog Biscuits

Open the bag and you're greeted by the wonderful fruity smell of these treats.  The biscuits are about 1 1/2" in diameter.  With my three large dogs, this is a great size for a snack.  Though, at 35 calories per biscuit, they are not ideal for training rewards.

The birthday girl loved these Nutro Ultra dog treats from Chewy.com

If your dog is smaller, there's a size for you, too (see below).  All three dogs agreed with me:  these smell good!

My dogs love the smell of Nutro Ultra dog biscuits!

Here's what I like about these treats:
  • Natural antioxidant fruit ingredients.
  • No wheat, ground yellow corn, corn gluten meal, soy, artificial colors, artificial flavors or fillers.
  • Lean animal proteins from farm-raised chicken, pasture-fed lamb, and salmon
  • Made in the USA
  • Competitively priced - $6.49 for a 16 oz bag at Chewy.com

Especially when you're the birthday girl!

Waiting for yummy dog treats is so hard!

In addition to the Nutro Ultra Wild Blueberry and Pomegranate Antioxidant Blend, these dog biscuits are available in other flavors and sizes:
  • Oatmeal and Pumpkin Biscuits Healthy Digestion Blend
  • Salmon Meal and Sunflower Oil Biscuits Healthy Skin and Coat Blend
  • Small Breed Formula Biscuits Superfood Blend

The other thing I like is being able to order them from Chewy.com.  The web site is so easy to navigate and the variety of pet food, treats and supplies is growing all the time.  I've always received excellent customer service at Chewy.com and I love the super fast home delivery.

We love shopping at Chewy.com
I'm pleased to highly recommend Nutro Ultra Wild Blueberry and Pomegranate Antioxidant Blend Dog Treats from Chewy.com.

Ledfoots Pet Bakery Dog Treats | Product Review

Let's get this taste test started...
When Ledfoots Pet Bakery asked if we'd like to do a product review about their dog treats, it was easy to say yes.

Jeffie, Rudy and Rosie are always ready for a taste testing.  I like trying new pet products and supporting small boutique businesses, especially when they're handmade.  Letfoots Pet Bakery scores on all counts.

Ledfoots Pet Bakery begin in 2006 when their first puppy was getting sick from store bought dog treats.  After doing a lot of research, they arrived at a variety of homemade dog and cat treats that are healthy and safe.

Ledfoots Pet Bakery dog treats are homemade with the finest human grade ingredients in Genoa, Illinois.  The treats are made in small batches and everything is done by hand.  They call that their quality control method.

For holidays like Halloween they make very cute festive shapes - large for big dogs and animal cracker size for small dogs.

We received two packages of dog treats:  Pumpkin and Peanut butter, which are their most popular treats.  Each were packaged in cute Halloween trick or treat bags.  Both of these flavors have some good health benefits.  Pumpkin is great for digestion, while peanut butter provides protein and is a good source of fiber.

Pumpkin Dog Treat ingredients:  Whole wheat flour, pumpkin, oatmeal, cinnamon, nutmeg, canola oil

Peanut Butter Dog Treat ingredients:  whole wheat flour, all natural peanut butter, oatmeal, water, canola oil

Undo the twist tie from these festive bags and you immediately smell the treats.  Yum!  The Peanut Butter flavor was in the small animal cracker size.  My taste testers didn't seem to notice the cute Halloween shapes - ghosts, pumpkins, cats - but I thought they were pretty cute.

Jeffie and Rosie approve of the smell of these dog treats!

Though they loved these, the real hit with my pack are the Pumpkin Dog Treats.  These were larger dog cookies - also in festive Halloween shapes - and the dogs went crazy.  Generously sized, these crunchy treats were the favorites.  Both flavors passed the Dog Daddy's test, too.

Let go Mama!

We especially like the fact that Ledfoots Pet Bakery never uses fillers, preservatives, artificial coloring or flavoring and no animal by-products.  Plus, no sugar.  Their recipes are designed for dogs with sensitive stomachs.  They also offer wheat free, corn free, and grain free treats for dogs with allergies.

Yummmm... these are seriously good!

I'm pleased to highly recommend Ledfoots Pet Bakery.  Just like you'd make in your own kitchen, without the hassle of messing up your kitchen!  Competitively priced and perfect for gift giving.

More, please!

Wordless Wednesday: Dog Cookies!

One cookie left for Lucy... who hid under the table as soon as she saw the camera.  Rudy and Jeffie could care less about the camera when there's cheese involved.  These dog treats are a favorite at our house.  Fetch our Cheese Dog Biscuit recipe and let your furry friends give them a try.

Barking Neon Green Van Chased by Dog

Imagine a neon green van driving down a city street.  Now imagine that this van is barking.  Yes, barking.  And as the van passes you realize there seems to be a big dog chasing it.

You're not dreaming;  you've just seen the Snicky Snaks incredibly creative marketing ploy.    I stumbled on this news story from St Louis and cannot resist sharing.  Full disclosure:  For Love of a Dog Jewelry is in no way affiliated with Snicky Snaks.  We're just pretty crazy about their van.  Doggone it...  we're charmed and a bit jealous.  Take a look:

Snicky Snaks is an organic dog treat created by Riccardo Hayes and Jason Hendry, a couple of guys who wanted healthy snacks for their dogs.  And, yes, the van looks an awful lot like a bag of Snicky Snaks.

Carob Dog Treats Recipe from For Love of a Dog Jewelry

I confess.  I'm a chocolaholic.  And yes, I do feel bad when I enjoy a chocolate treat in front of my canine companions.  They feel bad, too, and are exellent beggers.  So now they have their own version of chocolate yumminess in these Carob Dog Treats:

3 cups whole wheat flower
1/2 cup wheat germ
2 1/2 cups oatmeal
1/8 cup peanut oil
1/8 cup corn oil margarine
1 tablespoon brown sugar
2 oz carob chips, melted
1/4 cup molasses
1 cup water
1/2 cup powdered milk

Mix all the dry ingredients in your bowl.  Add the remaining ingredients and stir until blended well.  This dough will be stiff.  Chill for at least 1/2 hour.  Roll dough and cut with cookie cutters or however you please.  I usually just cut the dough into squares 1/2 inch thick.  Bake at 300 degrees for 1 hour.  Makes 2 to 3 dozen depending on the size treats you cut.

Cheese Dog Biscuit Recipe from For Love of a Dog Jewelry

Lucy and Jeffie begging for cheese.
My dogs are cheese hounds.  Big time cheese hounds.  They can hear us getting the cheese from the frig even when they're outside in the yard.  It's probably a fabulous psychic talent or something.  For sure they are wild about these Cheese Dog Biscuits, so here's the recipe:

1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
1 1/4 cup grated cheddar cheese
1/4 pound corn oil margerine
1 clove garlic - crushed
Pinch of salt
Milk
Grate the cheese and let is stand until room temperature.  Then cream the cheese with the softened margerine, garlic, salt and flour.  Add just enough milk to form a ball.  Chill for at least 30 minutes.  Roll out onto a floured surface and cut into shapes.  Bake at 375 degrees for 15 minutes or until lightly brown and firm.  Makes 2-3 dozen depending on the size of your cookie cutter.

Here at For Love of a Dog Jewelry these dog treats do not last long!

Doberman Pinscher Necklace

Mama has new jewelry in the For Love of a Dog shop. Not only some fun lampwork dog bone (or biscuit) earrings, some breed bracelets, but also some very cute Doberman Pinscher earrings and a necklace. This adorable dog charm could represent a Miniature Pinscher or mixed breed mutt, too. What fun!

She's been busy on the computer the last couple of days, so I've been getting plenty of power napping done. I've needed a little rest since last week was perfect dog weather with temps in the low 70's and almost no humidity. I spent as much time outside as I could. When I wasn't working (security patrol, you know), I just relaxed on the deck and watched the hummingbirds fight. It was almost like a vacation!

Woof! woof!

Tucker's Favorite Dog Cookies

Woooof... it smells good in here! Mama and the goldies (Lucy and Jeffie) are in the kitchen making dog cookies! Mama makes different ones, but these are my favorite. While they're baking I thought I'd share the recipe with you.

Tucker's Favorite Dog Cookies
1 package active dry yeast dissolved in 1/2 cup lukewarm (110-115 degree) water
1 cup chicken broth
2 tablespoons molasses
1 3/4 to 2 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
1 cup cracked wheat
1/2 cup cornmeal
1/2 cup nonfat dry milk powder
2 teaspoons garlic powder
2 teaspoons garlic powder
2 teaspoons salt
Combine the following to brush tops before baking: 1 beaten egg PLUS 1 tablespoon milk
In a bowl, combine 1 cup of the all-purpose flour, the whole wheat flour, cracked wheat, cornmeal, dry milk powder and salt. Mix well. Then add yeast/water mix, molasses and broth. On a floured surface knead in enough remaining flour to make a stiff dough. Roll out dough to cut into biscuits with a doggie cookie cutter. Place on un-greased baking sheets. Brush tops. Bake 45 minutes at 350 degrees. Turn oven off and leave in oven overnight. Makes 36-40 dog cookies.

Woof! Woof!
