Strange Critter | Monday Mischief

A strange critter appeared in our yard a couple of days ago.
Jeffie wasn't quite sure if he should be afraid...  or not.

While her brothers kept an eye on the strange critter, Rosie looked to me to see how I was reacting to this trespassing event.

The boys soon had enough of observing from a distance.
They wanted out of the house to get a closer look.

Our mischief will take a little explaining.  Yes, Missouri has squirrels.  However, we built our house in what was pasture with very few trees.  No squirrels.  Lucy and Tucker knew what they were from living in Virginia.  However, Jeffie, Rudy and Rosie - all Missouri born - had never, ever seen one before.

This was their very first squirrel!  It was very, very exciting!

  2. We don't see squirrel to often here...even though we have them. We usually see real tree rats and all sorts of lizards and snakes. Eek!

  5. Yep guys, I can confirm it's definitely a Squirrel!! I've become an expert in these matters as they run across our fence multiple times every day (with me in hot pursuit - no idea why I chase them?)

    I hope you're having a fun day,

    Your pal Snoopy :)

  7. Oh boy, that must have been exciting! We have millions of squirrels around here, to the point where the dogs are almost bored by them. The groundhog that lived under the deck for a while, however, THAT was exciting...

  8. Pierre, our Westie granddog LIVES to chase squirrels. He watches out the back door and goes berserk when one dares to enter his hallowed yard!

  10. Exciting indeed and great photo of the squirrel running. Gman would chase it and catch it and shake it. Best to look at it from behind the window.

  11. We live in a newer development, so there weren't many trees either and squirrels, forget it. We had seen maybe two ever in Germany but at Gramma's house they are all over since she is in the woods. Finally, after living in our house for a few years, everyone planting trees and Mom putting out food, we are starting to get squirrels. So exciting!

  13. Oh I know the feeling! We used to have squirrels that our sheltie loved barking at when I lived in Austin. Then we moved to a more rural area in Round Rock, and there were no more squirrels. Finally, in the past 1-2 years I have been spotting them occasionally in the newer neighborhoods that were built around us.

  15. Cute pics! Ya know, I don't think Rita's ever seen a squirrel either! We had tons in our old neighborhood, but I've never seen one since we moved closer to the ocean.

  16. Their first squirrel, huh? We have them all over the place here in Kansas too. Our neighbor had one living in the corner of his roof and Maya and Pierson would go nuts watching him as he just sat their taunting them. Thankfully, the neighbors finally got that squirrel out of there and covered the hole. So Mr. Squirrel has moved.

  17. Oh how we love squirrels at our house. I watched Delilah chase one as it ran along the top of the fence once. Where was my camera? Not on me! LOL

Did you let them at it?

    1. I just couldn't let them at it. As it is, I give the rabbits a warning... hope the squirrel pays attention!

  18. Good thing you were there to show how not to panic in the face of a - gasp - a squirrel invader!

(Might have been interesting to see what happened if you'd screamed and run out of the room, lol. I can imagine lots of barking and running around the room. I probably have an unhealthy sense of humor.)

    1. Well... I really didn't want to encourage fear of squirrels ;-) After these photos, they began to lose patience with me. Gave a warning shout out to the squirrel and all three dogs went nuts smelling where he/she'd been. Very, very exciting!
