Adopt Gump a 6 yr old Treeing Walker #Coonhound @WaysideWaifs in #KCMO

This handsome fellow is Gump.  He's a 6 year old Treeing Walker Coonhound.  According to Wayside Waifs staff and volunteers he's very gentle and affectionate, plus highly treat and praise motivated.  Gump would really like to have a forever home for the holidays.

Here's Gump's adoption message:
Hi there! My name is Gump and I'm a very handsome Treeing Walker Coonhound. I'm 6 years old, weigh about 51 pounds, and have soft floppy ears. When I first was transferred to Wayside Waifs from another shelter, I wasn't feeling too well...and I was pretty skinny. The good people here took such wonderful care of me, that now I'm feeling great, and ready to find my true, forever family!

The good thing about being 6 years old is that I'm a little more laid back than a puppy. I'm not your typical goofy, vocal hound (though I may have my moments!) I'm gentle, affectionate and sensitive, and really love attention from people. I know how to come on command, and am ready to learn all those other good behaviors that will please my family. I'm motivated by treats and praise, so it should be easy for me to pick up new skills.

In addition to basic obedience training, I'll need plenty of mental and physical exercise to channel all my energy and curiosity. On walks, I'll do best with a harness. You see, I'm a nose-to-the-ground kind of hound, and my great sense of smell can sometimes distract me. Are you the partner and leader I'm looking for? I'd love to learn how to focus better so I can please you in every way!

Won't you come out to Wayside Waifs and meet me soon? When you do, bring all the family members so we can be sure we all get along. I'm healthy and happy and ready to live in a home with a real family. Will that family be yours? I hope so, and I'll be waiting here for you. Come soon!

Wiggles and wags,
Gump

  1. What a handsome boy! Love how it says he's a nose to the ground kind of hound. Is there any other kind? :) I love hounds!

  4. Sharing. Sue, do you know that I live close to the KC area (in fact grew up there) and over the years have adopted two wonder dogs from WW. They are my "donation" group. When I give money, it is usually to them. I love that you feature dogs from them. They are a wonderful organization.

    1. Whenever I read your blog I've wondered how close to KC you are. Many years ago, when we lived in KC, we adopted our lab mix Sherman from Wayside Waifs. Though he is an angel now, I continue to be grateful to Wayside and think they're a model shelter. The shelters near me are... barely online and not particularly helpful in terms of info about their available dogs. That's even true of Dogwood which is where I found Jeffie and more recently Rosie. So, I like to promote pets from Wayside. Lots of info to share and they even share my tweets :-)
