Another Dog Song Saturday has rolled around and we've got an original song about dogs for you. Old Dogs was written and is performed by Larry Garrett.
Larry Garrett's music comes from the long tradition of folk music in the Kansas City area. Pulled from everyday experiences of family, childhood, "old dogs" and growing older, the Independence, Missouri, resident's songs paint a picture of life that is personal yet steeped in a musical lineage. Garrett performs regularly, usually with a guitar and harmonica, though you'll also occasionally find him with dobro, banjo, dulcimer or ukulele. Garrett wrote this song about the dogs he and his wife have had and dedicates it to Charla, the English Bull Dog, Derek the Standard Schnauzer, Bluto, a Bull Terrier, Mickey the Westie, and Darla the Bulldog. He further notes that "if they're not up there in heaven, I don't think I want to go." Sit Stay. Relax and enjoy Old Dogs by Larry Garrett. Fetch more dog songs and music videos at Talking Dogs. It's Saturday, so time for a dog song at Talking Dogs. We're celebrating Senior Pets month along with the Blog Paws community with today's selection. Old Dogs by Larry Garrett is an original dog song. Larry wrote the song several years ago about his family's dogs. Old Dogs is dedicated to Charla the English Bulldog, Derek the Standard Schnauzer; Bluto the Bull Terrier, Mickey the West Highland Terrier, and Darla the Bantam Bulldog. You'll see all of his dogs in the music video that accompanies his song. Larry notes: If they're not up there in heaven, I don't think I want to go.
Chorus…… Yes Lord, old dogs are hard to let go of. They kind of take root in your
soul. They grow-up inside of your heart, and then you can’t let them go.
Trips to the vet are more often. The vet frowns and says, “He’s not good.” I may have to make a decision. Lord, I don’t know if I could. At night I sit on the sofa. And he rests his head on my knee. He stares into my face As if he’s trying to speak to me. So I look into his eyes. I hear his jaws squeak when he yawns. And I know what he’d like to say: “Who will take care of you when I’m gone?”
Chorus……Yes Lord, old dogs are hard to let go of. They kind of take root in
your soul. They grow-up inside of your heart, and then you can’t let them go. And Lord, there just one more thing, that I think you ought to know.If he’s
not up there in heaven, I don’t think I want to go.
