Tasty Tuesday | Cheese Grits Recipe

The recipe I'm sharing today is one of our favorites:  Cheese Grits.  Not just a side dish, these cheese grits are perfect as a breakfast entree, plus are wonderful for a brunch.

I like to pair them with homemade buttermilk biscuits with some honey butter.  A slice of cantaloupe on the side is yummy, but so are the blackberries I added yesterday.

Yes.  Our dogs have tasted these Cheese Grits and love them.  When he was alive, Tucker used to hover close in the kitchen when we were making them.  They were one of his very favorite things - in moderation.  We don't usually allow our dogs any corn products.

Quick, easy and delicious!

Cheese Grits

1 cup uncooked regular grits
1 (16 oz) Velveeta, cubed
1/2 cup butter
6 large eggs
1/4 cup milk
1/2 teaspoon salt

  1. Prepare 1 cup grits according to the package directions; remove from heat and stir in cheese and butter until blended.
  2. Whisk together eggs, milk, and salt.  Gradually whisk about 1/4 of hot grits mixture into egg misture;  add to the remaining hot grits mixture, shisking constantly.  Spoon mixture evenly into a lightly greased 13 x 9 inch baking dish.
  3. Bake at 350 degrees for 40 to 50 minutes or until set.
Leftovers?  No problem.  These heat up well in the microwave.

  3. Miss Sue,
We love grits here but your grits look more like corn bread, which we also love!!! I think I need to make Ma try this recipe.

  4. Usually if it involves cheese Mom is for it but she has never had grits. With all the traveling she has done, she has never tried them, but maybe with cheese it will give her the foot wedge she needs to give them a try!

  6. You had me at cheese. This sounds SOOO good. This is the kind of cookin' I appreciate.
My hubs is doing very low-carb diet right now. It's working well, but killing me, lol... because I can't really make dishes like this to enjoy because what's the joy if you can't sit and share it with someone? Maybe I can convince him to cheat for this. I'll tell him that all the eggs and cheese and butter outweigh the carb-iness of the corn. Sure.

  10. I haven't had any cheddar cheese grits in so long. Our only southern food restaurant closed a few years ago and I miss getting my fix. I guess I know what I'll be doing this weekend.
