Can't Be Replaced Jake Tribute Song by Dierks Bentley on Dog Song Saturday

We've got a country ballad about a dog for Dog Song Saturday today and we're pretty sure you're going to love it.

The final song on Dierks Bentley's Black album is a beautiful tribute to his dog Jake.  Can't Be Replaced talks about past memories and how some things just aren't replaceable.  Like his dog.

Bentley wrote this song when Jake was 15 and he knew their remaining time together was short.  At the time, Jake was undergoing chemotherapy for cancer, was totally deaf, and had trouble using his legs.
"For 15 years right by my side
From a single man to three kids & a wife.
Friends come & go but when it comes to Jake
There's just some things that can't be replaced."
Bentley says he can't listen to this song without tearing up.  He lost Jake in July.

We think you should probably grab some tissues before you listen to Can't Be Replaced by Dierks Bentley.

  1. I love Dierks Bentley. I always enjoyed seeing Jake in his videos. I didn't know that Jake was sick and deaf, but was so sad when I saw on FB that he had passed. I also saw recently that his family adopted another dog from a shelter - not replacing Jake, of course, but so great to see another dog in a family with so much love and devotion to their pets.

    1. I clicked play while I read your comment and realized the music video has been replaced since I scheduled this post. Doggone it! The version I originally posted had lots of clips of Jake. Will try to fix that. In the meantime, thanks for your comment. I love this song. Maybe he'll write a song for his new dog. We can hope!
