Happy Chinese New Year!

January 23 is the Chinese New Year.  And I'm off the hook for doing any kind of cleaning!

Did you know that the Chinese believe that on New Year's Eve, all brooms, brushes, dusters, dust pan and other cleaning equipment are put away.  Sweeping or dusting should not be done on New Year's Day for fear that good fortune will be swept away.

What a relief!  One of my own New Year's resolutions was to take pictures of my dogs with less dog hair in the photos.  You know, so it looks like I do sometimes run the vacuum cleaner at our house.  (I do, I do!)  Well, I won't be running that vacuum today!

So, lay down that duster.  Put away that Windex and vacuum cleaner.  Play with those pups and focus on receiving lots of good fortune in 2012, the Chinese year of the Dragon!

Dog Hair Rescues Gulf in Oil Spill

The nonprofit organization, Matter Of Trust, is providing a safe, non-toxic, effective way to participate in the Gulf Spill clean up. Donors from every state in the US, from Canada and beyond are sending in hair, fur and wool clippings as well as nylons and funding for outer mesh. This is used to make Booms that can protect beaches and coastal waters

Matter of Trust is accepting hair, fur, fleece, feathers and nylons! Thousands of booms are being made all along the Gulf Coast by hundreds of volunteers. Supplies are ready to go to official government haz mat teams that have hazardous waste disposal plans in place. Matter of Trust is only giving out boom to official government haz mat teams. We are an environmental charity and would not risk oily boom being left out without proper disposal. BP Public Affairs has told us they have enough of their own boom. And Matter of Trust is now in contact with local parishes and counties in the Gulf States.
