Cavalier King Charles Named 2011 Bark in the Park Mascot

Charlie, a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, has been selected to serve as the 2011 Bark in the Park Mascot.  Voters selected Charlie after reading the inspirational story of how he helped his owner, Bob, through his battle with leukemia.

Bob and Charlie will receive a years supply of Purina ONE and lead the Walk for Animals on May 21 at Cricket Field in forest Park, Missouri.

Bark in the Park is the largest dog-walk in the Midwest and an annual event of the Humane Society of Missouri. All proceeds from the event benefit their Animal Cruelty fund which is dedicated to investigating, healing, and preventing animal abuse.

In so many early English paintings of upper crust families, I've seen a gorgeous little dog or two.  Of course, they're Cavalier King Charles Spaniel dogs.  Elegant and energetic, with sweet natures, its no wonder this breed is so popular today.  At For Love of a Dog we celebrate the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel dog breed in jewelry and gift items.

Shown here is our Cavalier King Charles Spaniel dog breed leash hook.  It is fully two dimensional and very lifelike. Use this dog hook for your dog leash or hang up your jacket in style. Great dog lover gift.  Size approx 3 1/4" x 5" with a good size, sturdy hook.

Puppy Mill Bust in Missouri

On June 14, 2010 the Humane Society of Missouri’s Animal Cruelty Task Force was called in to help shut down another substandard puppy mill in central Missouri. This puppy mill was run by a breeder licensed by both the US Dept of Agriculture and the MO Dept Agriculture.

Canines removed included 109 Cocker Spaniels, Poodles, Pekingese, Beagles, Shih Tzues, and Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. All at the request of the MO Dept Agriculture. The facility was cited by the USDA and MDA for lack of sanitation. Citations included kennel areas overrun by feces and insects, overcrowded and unsafe pens with exposed wires and jagged edges, and chronic lack of adequate ventilation.

With heat indexes well over 90 degrees, the rescuers found indoor conditions almost unbearable. Dogs and pupples were underweight, lethargic and dehydrated. Dogs were matted with encrusted fur, fleas, and displayed bloated bellies. Dogs were also suffering pneumonia, eye infections, paw pad burns and other severe infections.

All the rescued puppies and dogs have received veterinary and shelter care from the HSMO.
