More Like My Dog lyrics

All he needs is food and water
A little shelter from the rain
He ain't the type that likes to argue
I've never once heard him complain
He never asks me where I've been
She could learn thing or two from him

I say come, he comes right here
He loves to go fetch my next beer
He rolls over, if I tell him to
There ain't a thing my dog won't do
Yeah, he likes my truck
He don't mind my gut
And he loves to hunt hogs
Why can't she be more like my dog

He knows when to keep his mouth shut
And both ears open wide
He don't ever sweat the small stuff
Cause he's just glad to be alive
You could say he's my best friend
Why can't she be more like him

I say come, he comes right here
He loves to go fetch my next beer
He rolls over, if I tell him to
There ain't a thing my dog won't do
And yeah, he likes my truck
He don't mind my gut
And he loves to hunt hogs
Why can't she be more like my dog

I say come, he comes right here
He loves to go fetch my next beer
He rolls over, if I tell him to
There ain't a thing my dog won't do
And yeah, he likes my truck
He don't mind my gut
And he loves to hunt hogs
And it's a well-known fact
That he's got my back if I get into a squab

Yeah, he's just a pup
But he knows what's up
We don't need no dialogue
Why can't she be more like my dog
Yeah, why can't she be more like dog
Oh, why can't she be more like dog
More like my dog
Just a little more like my dog

Ol' Red by Blake Shelton | Dog Song Saturday

For today's Dog Song Saturday at Talking Dogs, we've got a country tune with quite a story.  Ol' Red was written by James "Bo" Bohan, Don Goodman and Mark Sherrill and originally recorded by country legend George Jones in 1990.  In 2002 Blake Shelton released his cover on his self-titled debut album and it became a top 20 hit.

In the song a prison inmate is serving a 99 year sentence for murder.  He has the job of taking care of Ol' Red, a Bloodhound used by the prison guards to track escaping inmates.  The dog as foiled every escape attempt so far and the warden even goes so far as to dare the inmates to try to escape because "Ol' Red is itching to have some fun.

Listen to the lyrics and see if Ol' Red keeps up his reputation!

In My Dreams I Have A Dog by Dean Jones and Dogs on Fleas Band | Dog Song Saturday

We love it when Talking Dogs readers make suggestions for Dog Song Saturday!  Our pals at The Daily Dog Tag shared a great original dog song with us.

In My Dreams (I Have a Dog) is the title track on a new album released in July by the band Dog on Fleas.  Written by Dean Jones, this song is a very upbeat, catchy children's song. Jones notes that most of the songs on this album were written during long walks in the woods with his rescue dog, Trooper.

Sit. Stay. Relax and enjoy In My Dreams (I Have a Dog) and have a barking good weekend!
