All Day I Get Bacon Baby Dog Rap | Dog Song Saturday

It's Saturday!  That means it's time for a dog song here at Talking Dogs.  Though we tend to like original songs written about dogs the best, sometimes we can't resist having some fun.

Today we've got a silly dog rap music video for your enjoyment.  Yes, it is an advertisement for some dog treats.  That's really not the point and we don't really care what it's advertising.  However, we love the dog, Boss the Corgi, and the song All Day I Get Bacon Baby is doggone fun.

Sit. Stay. Relax and enjoy All Day I Get Bacon Baby.  Fetch more dog songs and dog music videos at Talking Dogs.  You'll be surprised at how many we've collected.

Adopt Brother a Hound Dog Mix @WaysideWaifs in #KCMO

This sweet soul is Brother.  He's a 3 year old hound dog mix.  Originally from New Orleans, LA, Brother was relocated to Wayside Waifs animal shelter in Kansas City, MO in hopes he'd have a better chance of finding a home.

Brother is shy, but has been gaining confidence, especially thanks to Wayside Waifs' Confidence College.  It's hard to learn to trust humans, but Brother is doing just that.

I'll let Brother tell you his story:
Hi there, I'm Brother. This is such a hard thing for me to do...stepping into the spotlight to share my story with you makes me uncomfortable and self-conscious. But sometimes in life, you have to take risks and do things you don't want to do. I understand that. And that's why I'm here today, opening my heart to you, hoping you might be the kind person who needs a dog like me in your life. I am super sweet and fun, but sometimes shy and unsure and afraid, at least until I get to know you. So life can be scary to me. I'm trying so hard to fit in.

I am a handsome and unique, 3 year old, medium sized, Hound mix. I'm cute and playful, in the most fun sort of way! I like to run and romp and chase after my toys. I make people smile, without even trying. I haven't always had that effect on people though. I guess I've had sort of a tough life. I was homeless and living in New Orleans, when the shelter I was staying at decided I'd have a better chance at a happy life if I relocated here to Kansas City. The thought of moving across the country terrified me! When I got to Wayside, I sat in my kennel and trembled, hoping no one would notice me. I felt so alone.
Each day though, things were slowly getting better. I was enrolled in Wayside's "Confidence College", for shy and fearful dogs. I started to let a few people into my life. I started to feel not quite so alone. After a few weeks, I let everyone know that I was ready to start my new life...which will hopefully be with you. I'm still shy though and I probably always will be. Quick movements and strange noises are still scary to me. But I'm gaining confidence every single day now! I'm starting to feel more social and brave and special. I'm having fun and even forgetting my fears at times. Still though, I need you to take things very slowly with me, especially when we first get home and I'm getting settled into my new routine with you. Please let me go at my own pace and don't push me into situations before I am ready. I need you to be patient and gentle and calm with me. Please offer me plenty of positive reinforcement, by praising me and giving me treats when I'm a good boy. This will help me gain confidence, while learning what you expect from me. I'm a smart dog who loves to make you happy, so I'll make an excellent student. I already know the sit and down commands, but I'd love to learn more, so please teach me!

Once I get comfortable with you and learn to trust you, I am an affectionate and loving dog. I love to be by your side as you pet me. And I love to curl up next to you on the couch, as we unwind for the day. I will make a loyal and devoted companion for you. I'm looking for a home that is calm, low-key, and quiet. I will be happiest without kids under the age of at least 5, since they are scary to me. And I was never really socialized much with other dogs in my past, so I'm sort of unsure around them. I seem to do better with females than males. Please just bring the whole family, including both human and canine, out to meet me and we'll see how we all do together. I just really want this adoption to work out, so I need to find the right family for me! Thanks for understanding.

I hope you're the kind of person who celebrates the little things in life. And I hope you're looking for a sweet and simple dog who likes to quietly watch the world go by. I don't feel the need to be the life of the party. I'm happy being me, a shy and unsure and sometimes awkward dog who doesn't always know the right way to act just yet. But I'm getting there! I'm such a work in progress. And with your help and your love and attention and patience, I will blossom into the best dog you've ever known. Please just give me that chance!
      Love, Brother

Get Along Stray Dog with Steve Martin and Edie Brickell | Dog Song Saturday

It's Saturday, so time for a dog song at Talking Dogs!

Kick off your weekend with a snappy bluegrass tune.

Get Along Stray Dog is performed here by Steve Martin and Edit Brickell at the 13th Annual NON-COMMvention in 2013.

For more fun, here are the lyrics to this original dog song composed by Steve Martin:
Johnny came home and Jim did too
Looking for a home cooked dinner
Mama in the kitchen, said you never get through
Cooking for the saints and sinners

Get along, get along, get along Johnny
Get along, get along, get along Jenny

One day, the preacher come to our door
Said, Mm, mm, somethin' sure smells good
Papa said, " Yes, sir, there's room for one more
"Come and help yourself if you would"

Get along, get along, get along Preacher
Get along, get along, get along Papa

Every single time we sit down to eat
      Somebody's in the front yard
Ole Ms. Mary and her sister Mimi
Come on over just to play cards

      Get along, now
      Go home
      Get along, now
      Go on

      Get along now
      That's right
      Get along now
      Good night

Get along, get along, get along Mary
Get along, get along, get along Mimi

      Get along now
      Go home
      Get along now
      Go on

      Get along now
      That's right
      Get along now
      Good night

Hurry, shut the door 'fore she cooks
      Don't forget the fine aroma
Every stray dog in the neighborhood
Looking for a meal from mama

Get along, get along, get along stray dog
Get along, get along, get along stray dog
Sit.  Stay.  Get ready to tap your toe to Get Along Stray Dog.  If you're in the mood for more dog songs and dog music videos, check out our Dog Song Saturday archives.  You'll be surprised at how many we've collected.

The world will pardon my mush
'Cause I have got a crush, my baby, on you

Adopt a Bonded Pair of Senior Black Labrador Retrievers @WaysideWaifs in #KCMO

UPDATE - Roxie and Ranger were adopted (together) on Saturday, February 14.  Now, that's a happy Valentine's Day!

This dynamic duo is Roxie and Ranger. Both are black Labrador Retriever mixes who were surrendered to Wayside Waifs animal shelter.  Ranger is 7 1/2 and Roxie is 8 years old, so they're both considered senior dogs.  Roxie and Ranger have been together almost all of their lives and are a bonded pair.

These beautiful dogs are housebroken, used to a doggie door, walk nicely on a leash together and have a whole lot of love just waiting for you.

      Here's their story:
Hi there! We are Roxie and Ranger and we really want to be part of a family again. We had that once...a home and a family and a boy to run and play with. But for now, we're here at the shelter, waiting to start over with our new family. That's ok though. We know you'll find us soon and life will be good. We are fun and playful, affectionate and super sweet. We're just a little shy and unsure though too, mostly because this whole experience has been a bit overwhelming to us.

I, Ranger, am a handsome, 7 ½ year old, 54 pound, Black Lab mix. I love to be close to you and I melt into you when you pet me. Nothing feels better to me than a good belly rub. My sister, Roxie, is my best friend and the sweetest dog on earth, at least to me. She is a shy, 8 year old, 79 pound, Black Lab mix who is loving and gentle. We are both already housetrained and know how to use a doggie door when we need to go outside. Roxie is more nervous and anxious about life here at the shelter than I am, so she asked me to write our bio. I'd do anything for her, she knows that. It's just been a really confusing time for us, what with our family moving away and not being able to take us with them, so we are so very grateful that we have each other. I don't think either one of us can imagine making this transition in our lives without the other.

At our previous home, we were well behaved and easy dogs. We had a room that we stayed in with doggie door access to the fenced in backyard, and we proudly kept our room clean and neat. We loved more than anything when we were included in the house with the family though! Nothing feels better than the love of a family. We rode very well in the car and loved going for rides to show off our family. We lived with a teenage boy who liked to run and play outside with us every day. We loved that part of the day and looked forward to it with excited anticipation! We are in the prime of our lives, so we're calm and laidback, yet we have plenty of energy and we love to stay active and exercise, too. We're a great combination of fun and playful, yet easygoing and chilled out. We love to go for walks and one person can typically walk both of us at once, since we do really well on our leashes.

Sometimes things make us nervous and unsure. Our previous family said we were afraid of thunderstorms and fireworks and swinging baseball bats. Well, we don't feel like any of those fears are out of the ordinary, but we might be happiest in a calm and quiet home without a lot of activity and chaos. We'll do best in a home without kids under the age of 5. Older kids and adults are perfect though, and we'd love to romp and play again someday, if you're up for that. We might need a little extra time to adjust in our new home, as we get settled in and used to our new routines with you. Please just be patient and gentle with us and praise us when we are good dogs. We will thrive in a calm and loving environment. We'd like a home without cats, because we like to chase them. And we mostly do fine with other dogs, but if you do have others, please bring them out to meet us before we all go home together. In fact why don't you just bring the whole family to Wayside, so we can be sure we all get along great.

We know we're asking a lot from you to welcome two big dogs into your home. But we think we're worth it! We are well behaved and calm and sweet. We are best friends, so we promise to always get along. We play and entertain each other and keep each other company when you are away, so you never have to feel guilty about leaving us alone. Of course we'd prefer to have you home with us, so we can show you what true unconditional love is all about. And there will be double of that going around, with both of us giving you plenty of doggie love. Life will be happy and fun and full of good times with us around.

We just want to belong to a family again. We loved that part of life...being part of something and belonging to someone and knowing we were loved. We want that again, hopefully with you. Please give us a chance to show you what fantastic companions we can be. We won't let you down. We can't wait to meet you!
      Love, Roxie and Ranger

Thank You to Chewy for Custom Dog Portraits

This has been a dismal winter so far.  Very little snow and a whole lot of rain and ice.  Into this doom and gloom came the UPS man - which already brightened Jeffie's day - who brought us some sunshine in the form of very special gifts from Chewy.com!

Not one, but two lovely personalized paintings along with a cheerful message thanking us for being a part of the Chewy family of pet bloggers!

Since all of our packages from Chewy contain dog food, treats, supplements or toys, Rudy tried to give his present a taste test.  Relax. Rudy has a good sense of humor (and a very soft mouth) and he was only kidding. No dog art was harmed in any way.

These beautiful customized portraits of Jeffie and Rudy were commissioned by Chewy from Lauren Hammack.   Lauren is a professional artist in Atlanta, GA and specializes in custom animal portraits at her business Off the Wall Paintings.and she has done quite a few paintings for Chewy friends.

We love our paintings!  Thanks, Chewy!
